The worse part was the staff. Not a single friendly interaction with anyone, from the chilly young woman at the front desk to the brusque woman who served us coffee at breakfast. While sitting by the hearth in the lobby, the fire went out and the entire lobby filled with thick smoke. I was just trying to help by trying to reignite the flame in the fireplace so the smoke would stop, something I do all the time at home with our own wood stove. A woman with a thin gray ponytail appeared from the kitchen and began yelling at me to get away from the fireplace and I tried to explain that I was only trying to help. She shouted that if I got hurt I would probably try to sue the inn and they would be responsible, and told me to leave. She was horribly agitated and rude beyond description and acted as though I shouldn’t even be in the lobby and really made me feel unwelcome and made a point of humiliating me in front of the other guests and staff. I’m just glad my children were still in the room.
Also, the base boards in the tiny bathroom were filthy as if they hadn’t been wiped down in months. When you opened the windows to get air into the room, there was a thick crust on the sill.
