Check in was fine. Two of the elevators weren't working and one that was was also filthy and unfinished. The the hallway carpets are all stained and somewhat disgusting. When I got to my first room the bathroom had a bit of an off-smell, however this only intensified until a couple hours later when the entire room was inundated with the stench of sewage. After about 30 minutes of discussion and inspection, the staff moved me to another room. Unfortunately the toilet did not properly function there.
This was my third stay at this hotel. The previous two times I had been put off my the dirtiness of the elevators and the hallways, but the room was so cheap and so convenient to the Hongqiao rail station that I took the good with the bad, but the continued decline has put this hotel on my blacklist.
I travel in China regularly for business and realize that the standards there are different than in Europe - in some ways they are better, in others worse - but this hotel is just below what I would consider a minimum acceptable standard. Spend a bit of extra money and go somewhere else...
