Todi is a picturesque medieval hill town in Umbria, surrounded by medieval, Roman and Etruscan walls. Although it's a hill town, its center at the top of the hill is flat. The central piazza, originally the Roman forum, has several beautiful medieval buildings. Sights are close together and there are good places to linger, enjoying the views or the ambiance. Todi or the surrounding countryside makes a good base for visiting Umbria. Autumn is fantastic--bustling, still warm, and it is a time when many festivals (such as the Truffle Festival). The Christmas season is magical and there's many festivals on and the piazza becomes alive with activity including a skating rink. Winter is never too cold and spring starts early in March. The summer is filled with activity, bustling environment and of course very warm and sunny weather. Todi is in the southern part of the Umbria region, the region in the center of Italy. Like neighboring Tuscany, Umbria is dotted with hill towns but has fewer tourists. It's easy to visit as a day trip from nearby towns like Spoleto (44km), Orvieto (38km), or Perugia (46km). Todi is near the Tiber River overlooking the Tiber Valley. There are also nearby vineyards for wine tours and tastings and truffle hunting is a special experience offered at a local farm about 20 minutes away.
