Tango Monastery, also known as Tango Cheri Monastery, is a prominent Buddhist monastery located about 14 kilometres to the north of Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. Situated on a hillside in the upper part of the Thimphu Valley, Tango Monastery is one of Bhutan’s most significant religious sites and a popular destination for both tourists and pilgrims.

The Folk Heritage Museum is a cultural institution typically found in Bhutan, a country known for its rich cultural heritage and traditions. This museum serves as a repository for preserving and showcasing the traditional way of life, customs, and crafts of the Bhutanese people.

This factory produces handmade paper using traditional techniques that have been passed down through generations. The paper is made from the bark of the daphne tree, locally known as “Desho,” which is abundant in the Bhutanese countryside. The process of making the paper involves harvesting the bark, soaking it in water, boiling it to soften the fibres, and then beating it into a pulp. The pulp is then spread out onto wooden frames to dry in the sun.

The Buddha Dordenma, also known as the “Buddha Point,” is a massive statue of Buddha Shakyamuni in the Kingdom of Bhutan. It is located atop a hill in Kuensel Phodrang Nature Park overlooking the capital city of Thimphu. The statue stands at a height of 51.5 metres (169 feet), making it one of the largest Buddha statues in the world. It is made of bronze and gilded in gold.

The Craft Market in Thimphu, Bhutan, is a vibrant marketplace where visitors can find a wide variety of traditional Bhutanese handicrafts, textiles, artwork, and souvenirs. Located near the city centre, the Craft Market is a popular destination for tourists looking to purchase authentic Bhutanese goods and experience the country's rich cultural heritage. At the Craft Market, visitors can explore stalls and shops selling an array of locally made products, including handwoven textiles such as Bhutanese silk, woollen garments, and intricately patterned fabrics. Additionally, visitors can find traditional Bhutanese handicrafts like wood carvings, bamboo products, pottery, and handcrafted metalwork.

The National Memorial Chorten serves as a focal point for religious and spiritual activities in Thimphu. It is a popular destination for both locals and tourists, who visit to circumambulate the chorten, offer prayers and prostrations, and receive blessings from resident monks. Inside the chorten, there are several shrines dedicated to various deities and Buddhist figures, along with relics and sacred objects.

Dochula Pass is a mountain pass located in the Kingdom of Bhutan, a landlocked country in the Eastern Himalayas. It sits at an elevation of around 3,100 metres (10,200 feet) above sea level. The pass is renowned for its breathtaking panoramic views of the Himalayan mountain ranges, including the majestic peaks of the snow-capped Himalayas.

Chimi Lhakhang, also known as the Fertility Temple, is a revered Buddhist monastery located near the village of Sopsokha in the Punakha Valley of Bhutan. Chimi Lhakhang is especially popular among couples who are trying to conceive or seeking blessings for a healthy pregnancy and childbirth. As part of the fertility rituals, couples visit the monastery and receive blessings from the resident lama (monk).

Punakha Dzong, also known as Pungtang Dechen Photrang Dzong, is one of the most beautiful and important dzongs in Bhutan. One of the most iconic dzongs in Bhutan is situated at the confluence of the Pho Chhu (father) and Mo Chhu (mother) rivers, the dzong is an architectural masterpiece with intricate woodwork and vibrant murals. It is arguably one of the most beautiful dzongs in the country. Punakha Dzong is renowned for its impressive architectural design, characterised by whitewashed walls, red-wood beams, and traditional Bhutanese-style roofs.

Spanning 160m over the Phochu River, and connects the Punakha Dzong (fortress) with the nearby villages and agricultural lands. The bridge gently sways in the wind offering an extra touch of thrill to your journey. The bridge is located just a short walk from the iconic Punakha Dzong and it treats you to breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, river, and the Punakha Dzong itself, making it a favourite spot for visitors to take photos and enjoy the scenery.

The Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten is a stunning Buddhist shrine situated on a ridge above the Punakha Valley, offering panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and rice fields. The trail winds through lush rice paddies, small villages, and across a suspension bridge over the Mo Chhu River before ascending towards the chorten. Along the trail, hikers are treated to breathtaking views of the Punakha Valley and the surrounding countryside.

Paro Rinpung Dzong is set against a backdrop of lush green hills and towering mountains, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The picturesque setting adds to the charm and allure of the dzong. It was established by the Zhabdrung, to defend the Paro Valley against Tibetan invasions. Paro Rinpung Dzong is host to several annual religious festivals, including the famous Paro Tsechu.

Namgay Artisanal Brewery is a microbrewery located in Paro, Bhutan. It is known for producing a variety of craft beers using locally sourced ingredients and traditional brewing techniques. The brewery was founded by Namgay, who studied brewing in Germany before returning to Bhutan to establish his own brewery.

Trek begins with an Early morning drive to Sang Choekhor, the Buddhist College, with outstanding views of the valley below. Above us, the Chhoe Tse Lhakhang temple nestles in the mountainside – a further two-hour walk, where we will stop for lunch. The trail undulates for a while before the a steep pull up. From here, you can soak up the dramatic views south over Paro and north to the snow-capped Himalayas. After a final climb through Monastery fluttering prayer flags, we plunge back into the ancient forest, coming out on a high wide meadow dotted with sacred chorten and white flags. Our wild camp for the night is tucked under Bumdra monastery (Cliff of a Hundred Thousand Prayers) with incredible views of the Himalayan range. If time permits, we can visit the monastery and also climb the peak to the sky burial site (about 4,000m) for even better views, returning in time for a hearty dinner. Duration: 4 to 6 hours to camp Difficulty: Moderate to hard (guided with picnic lunch)

After a filling breakfast, we can either head back into the valley or linger a while to soak up the view and perhaps hang some prayer flags of our own. Eventually we drop back into the ancient pine and rhododendron forest on the zig-zag trail. During our descent, we catch glimpses of temples below. The path snakes across the mountainside between the temples, before reaching the gardens of Zangktopelri, from where we can see straight down onto the ornate rooftops of Taktsang monastery, perched against the cliff-face far below. An hour later and we are at the gates of Taktsang, looking across the gorge; a steep descent to a waterfall then up some steps to pass into Tiger’s Nest itself. Retracing our steps we begin the final descent to reach our vehicle and drive back to Hotel. Duration: 5 to 7 hours, depending on time taken in monasteries Difficulty: Moderate (guided with lunch)
