Take part in a wine-tasting workshop led by an expert and relish a variety of regional wines. Soak up the ambiance of a Bordeaux wine bar and settle in for a course of oenology in the heart of the city, 2 steps away from the Grand Theatre.
Experience a fun, friendly tasting session with wines from the Bordeaux region led by an expert sommelier that’s somewhere between a Bordeaux wine tasting class and a drink with your friends. The workshop takes place in the centre of Bordeaux, a stone’s throw from the Grand Théâtre.
No prior knowledge is required before taking part in this experience as our experts will adapt the content to your level of wine knowledge, whether you’re a beginner, a wine enthusiast or an expert. You’ll learn the basic concepts such as terroir, grape varieties, appellations, classifications, the winemaking process, ageing, storage and the art of serving wine—all while having fun.
You’ll try 6 wines in total. The session starts with a glass of white wine and you’ll follow a universally recognised tasting method that’s used throughout the wine world. You’ll learn the different stages of tasting wine and develop your own ability to analyse the attributes of wine.
We will then continue with 3 red wines produced from different grape varieties to gain a better understanding of how wine is blended in Bordeaux. This is when you’ll learn about some of Bordeaux’s greatest red wine regions: the Médoc and the Libournais. We’ll cover the vineyards, terroirs, appellations and classifications.
Finally, the session will end with a blind tasting of 2 Grands Vins de Bordeaux: the first from the left bank and the second from the right bank, including a Grand Cru de Bordeaux. What better way to figure out what you like and put to the test your newly honed skills at identifying wine?
For further cultural immersion, you’ll be served a platter of charcuterie and local cheeses alongside your wine—the perfect accompaniment to learning the basics of wine and food pairing.
Our expert sommeliers will be on hand to demystify the secrets of wine and answer any questions. All in all, it’s a journey through Bordeaux and its wines. No more dithering in the wine aisle after this class!
