What you can expect

An early morning 3-hour drive through beautiful scenery to Chiang Rai, with a brief stop at the Hot Springs at Maekajan for fresh air.

The next stop will be made at Wat Rongkhun (White Chapel), a unique temple, designed by Thailand's most prominent artist, Mr. Chalermchai Kositpipat.

Followed by a visit to the Black House, Covering over 100 rai, it comprises more than 25 buildings of pure and applied northern architectural styles. Belonging to the Thai National Visual Artist Thawan Duchanee, the Baandam Museum exhibits folk art of local artists from the past to the present together with a large collection of rare folk appliances from the old days.

Lunch will be provided at a local restaurant, before continuing to the Golden Triangle area. There are magnificent views over the Mae Khong River to the physical triangle made by Burma, Laos, and Thailand at the confluence of the Ruak and Mekong Rivers. For a small fee, you can also enjoy the boat ride to view the splendour of the mighty Mae Khong River.

Afterwards, return journey back to Chiang Mai.

The best part of the trip were the White Temple (a MUST SEE) and the Black House. Everything else was (in our opinion) a waste of time. We were picked up at 7:00 AM and were not returned back to our hotel until 10:30 PM..... The hot springs was cool to see, but it was surrounded by a market and a gas station. We spent almost an hour there. Then, we saw the White Temple and the Black House, which were amazing. Then, we rode for another hour and a half to the Golden Triangle. The Golden Triangle was not what we expected. We could see the other two countries and if we wanted to go there, it would have taken more time because they are separated by a river. It was already 5:00PM when we arrived and the rest of the group did not have their passports to go into the other countries. Overall, we suggest finding a way to the White Temple and Black House on your own.

This trip is great if you have a whole day free. Unfortunately the day before it rained continuously which meant we were told that our full day would be extended even longer. I was picked up just before 7am and did not return till just before 10pm which gives you an indication of how long the day was. Due to taking a diversion it meant the itinerary changed throughout the day, which was completely fine however the guide did not speak great English (which this tour specifies you would have) so he could not tell us much about where we would be going and how long it would take. This meant that it felt like we spent the majority of the day inside a mini bus. I am still unsure why this tour is so expensive because the only thing paid for is the White Temple everything else is free to see. Lunch as very basic too. £60-£70 is very expensive for this trip and I wouldnt recommend it to anyone unless they really wanted to see a palace and a river parting the countries at the golden triangle.

Game our guide was very knowledgable about the are and its history and shared it with us. The hot spring was not what we were expecting, very small and in the middle of a market, you can not sit in it because it is too small and too hot. just put your feet in. luckily we beat the hoards of Chinese tourists by 5 minutes. there is another pool that is super hot and a lady sells you eggs in a little basket that you put in the water and boil. The white temple is beautiful and worth the visit. We thought our tour included the long neck people but it doesnt any more. They took us there anyway but didnt pay for our entry which is 300 Baht. it is only a fake set up village for tourists anyway. it is not in the mountains where they really live. We missed the black house because we went to the long necks. Lunch was very nice at a nice restaurant on the Mekong with a great view of Laos. Too much food ! The golden triangle was very good and interesting. The trip back was very long

It was a good day out albeit a very long day . Good driver with a friendly tour guide . The temples were awesome . We chose the optional excursion of seeing Long Neck Karen I thought the entrance fee of 500 baht per person was a tad expensive . Somehow the place wasn’t what I expected . It looked a bit sad . I was expecting to see the village but was presented with a row of sovenir shops

Good day but do not feel the last stop is a requirement. Would be better if you headed straight back to Chiang Mai to make it not such a long day
