What you can expect

The Gutenberg Museum is one of the world's oldest museums for printing and is primarily dedicated to the investor of the printing press himself, Johannes Gutenberg, a native of Mainz. Different tools and machines of the printing press dating back several centuries bring the history of printing to life. This Museum offers a privileged and special exhibition with a thorough description of all aspects of the art. The polio of this museum includes two mid-15th century original Gutenberg Bibles and a reconstructed Gutenberg workshop, where there is an hourly demonstration of how printing was done in the master’s time.
It emerged as a World Museum for the Art of Printing, and it is divided into two sections, one which explains the development of scripts, and the other is for the history of press, the craft of bookbinding, as well as production. Discover the cuneiform inscriptions to modern typography, from manuscripts to printing presses, and the museum’s educational project space. This tour invites us on a journey through four millennia of book, printing, and script culture.
