For a day surrounded by scenic wonders, travel outside of Taipei to kick off this must-see attraction in Taiwan. Spend some time at the Taroko National Park, taking in the stunning marble walls and winding river of Taiwan's Taroko Gorge.
In the morning, come to Cosmos Hotel for pick up, travel to the Taipei Railway Station, and take the train to Hualien to start your day-long guided journey of Taroko National Park. Upon arrival, head to Taroko Gorge via road and enjoy stops at the Taroko Gorge Gateway and the Eternal Spring Shrine – the most photographed sight in the area.
Enjoy a short walk on Shakadang Trail, built along the river cliff so travellers can easily observe both the rock folds and plant ecosystem beside in the river valley.
Travel through numerous tunnels along the way, including Swallow Grotto. Stop by Cihmu Bridge, an H-shaped red bridge built with marble by late President Chiang Kai-shek, in memory of his mother, Mrs. Wang.
Then break for delicious lunch at a local restaurant. Catch a glimpse of the marble polishing process at the Marble Factory. Head to Chihsingtan Beach for wonderful views of the coastline, with a stunning mountain backdrop. Conclude the excursion by visiting Hualien Sculpture Park – the only museum fully dedicated to the art of stone carving.
Travel via express train back to Taipei at the end of the day and gaze at the changing scenery of countryside villages, rice fields, mountains, cliffs and the Pacific Ocean.

Well organized and packed a lot of activity into one day. Lunch was delicious and accommodated my vegetarian request. Our tour guide, Josephine, was great and fluent in English, but, at times, her English was unintelligible.

The end of the day was a "marble factory tour" which was a quick five minute walk through the front door and then swept into a huge retail location where we had the opportunity to purchase items. Be upfront with this... it is not a tour of a marble factory at all.
