This workshop is recommended if you're interested in Japanese culture, especially food and art! With understanding of concepts, you'll practically make the sweet, “Nerikiri” and “Matcha”, to have them together in a table-styled tea ceremony. With this cultural experience, I hope you could deepen and widen your understandings on Japanese food and art!
1) Introduction(0.5 hour). Before you make and eat, I'll have a talk on “Nerikiri”; the explanation of “Wagashi” and “Nerikiri”, short history to become “the quintessence of Japanese art”, and some more attractive points to enjoy the confectionary.
2) Making sweets(about 1.5 hour). In this part you'll make three different kinds of “Nerikiri” with the help of the certified instructor. The dough is already prepared so you just enjoy and focus on the artistic process. ※Design and technique will vary depending on the season you apply.
3) Table-styled tea ceremony(0.5 hour). Choosing one Nerikiri out of the three you made, we'll have a casual tea ceremony on table. I'll tell you the basic manners, so try some! You don't have to sit tight or keep the Seiza position, so just relax to feel the atmosphere and enjoy the perfect combination of sweetness and bitterness of Nerikiri and Matcha.
It's going to be held at the instructor's house. Please enjoy the warm atmosphere of the host, and I really wish you all can enjoy the workshop. Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any requests or questions! Really looking forward to seeing you.
