The first 2 days were fine.
The cottage is nicely equipped with kitchen tools and appliances,
and basic supplies like spices, flour, sweeteners, sauces, etc.
The beds were comfortable for us and there's enough space to
be comfortable. Everything that we used worked as it should.
It's a short walk to a pebbly beach strewn with logs and a sidewalk
next to the road that runs around the bay, which is nice for walking
and seeing totems of the Lummi institutions.
The not so good parts are that it's in a neighborhood of
tidy homes and mini junk yards, and the heat for the whole
place comes from a gas fireplace in the far corner of the living room
(except 1 bedroom has its own heat).
The terrible part for us was that there are sometimes
desperate people in the neighborhood, and one or more of them
broke into the house while we were away by throwing a rock
through a bedroom window. They stole a backpack and laptop with
irreplaceable things in them as well as half of our Christmas gifts.
The owner told us that it had never been burglarized . . .
while people were staying there. We feel that this is dishonest.
If there are known security risks, there should be protection available;
an immovable safe, motion activated exterior security lights and
surveillance cameras, security grates on the windows, and/or others.
At the very least, there should be a prominant warning to take
all valuables when away, and to leave lights on.
So we can't recommend this "Secret passage to the San Juan Islands.
Very quiet spot on a short, rural road." until security is improved.
