Being the old shipping house, this hotel has an usual layout. Very nice restaurant and bar (food was very good) and the staff were all wonderful. Wendy and Vasiliki at the front desk and Dale and Bowie at the bar, who managed things very well when it was super busy. A few of the canal from my room was a bonus and it's a very short walk to central station.

We were in a room that was way too hot and no way to cool it down. They opened the old windows but with heavy curtains no air came in. I'd curtains were open- it was bright light and incoming views from other rooms. The hotel is a maze and I'm seriously glad there wasn't a fire- would have never gotten out.

loved the old building and charm it had many really good employee's Mabinci really stood out in the restaurant and how great she was with my 4y old. there were some cleanliness issues with the tub and electrical problems with the curtains. If you want to charge your phone or run a sound machine you cannot just unplug your room it takes all electricity off.

This hotel has a lot to offer for anyone traveling to Amsterdam and wanting to stay in the heart of city center. The building itself stands out from the others as it is quite beautifully historic and has a renaissance type architecture. My favorite detail about this hotel is that the hotel is walking distance to central station where you’re easily able to take public transportation like the train, metro, or tram to different parts of the city. The hotel staff is very friendly and accommodating. Anytime I had any questions or concerns they were quickly addressed and resolved. The front desk staff, the bellboy that helped carry my luggage to my room, and the restaurant staff, were all very welcoming and willing to make sure my stay was as comfortable as possible which was greatly appreciated. Due to my amazing experience at this hotel I highly recommend anyone to stay here at the Grand Hotel Amrâth, and I will definitely be booking again in the near future.

Stayed three nights at the Amrath hotel and I can honestly say no complaints - enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine with some snacks - room was very adequate in terms of size especially the king size bed - the only slight criticism was the shower over the bath as managed to make the floor a little wet! Had great time though and all staff very pleasant and helpful

Beautiful hotel inside and out. Staff are incredible friendly and helpful. There was lots of little treats we didn’t know about, mini chocolates delivered to the room every evening, mini fridge, waffles etc. Spa was incredible.

Great and very helpful front desk personnel, and bellhops. The "automatic" curtains in my room opened by themselves three times overnight, waking me up! As well, the steam room was shut down...disappointing, as the "spa" area was a main reason for booking here.

The hotel is close to Amsterdam Centraal. A strong art-deco interior design, mostly well presented with a few places where ageing is showing, as well as a long walk to our room, and a noisy lift/elevator waking us in the night. Housekeeping did not replenish towels/bathrobes in line with the hotel policy which was disappointing. The staff are wonderful and very helpful. The spa area is really nice especially after a day on a busy city break. The hotel is a short walk from the main city centre and very convenient. I totally recommend this hotel.

I couldn’t say anything bad about this hotel! Booked it for my boyfriend’s birthday on arrival we were greeted by the Guest relations officer who showed us around and took us straight to our room, where ballon’s and chocolates had been put in the room. The drinks were complementary. All staff were friendly and the service was extremely exceptional. The spa and wellness facilities were great. I would recommend this hotel you definitely get what you pay for and I’ll be returning. The hotel is situated in a great place not even a 10min walk from the train station.

The staff were totally fabulous, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The hotel is very near the main station so really convenient for getting to and from the airport. The hotel is an artistic and architectural wonder and fascinating to wander around.

Requesting a deposit was a bad idea when card details suffice elsewhere. Someone knocking on our door every morning waking us on our holiday. Curtains opening automatically early morning waking us. Very strange Portuguese barman.

I had a wonderful time and loved the hotel itself and the location. My only issue which is what prompted the “good” rather than “excellent” review is the bathroom. First, there is next to no lighting so putting on makeup or doing my hair was a challenge. Second, the tub is so deep it was hard to climb in and out for a shower. Lastly, the shower doors did not stay in a single place so they would either end up hitting us or allowing the water to end up on the floor. Other than that we loved our stay!

The staff were brilliant. The rooms were classy, the pool and spa area was really reaxing and tranquil, the steak off the restaurant menu was sublime and the hotel is in the beating heart of Amsterdam. All in all. It was a cracking Amsterdam experience. Lovely Hotel and felt like a home from home for me. Thanks to all the staff, thankyou Amsterdam, thankyou Holland. What a great place.

The property is unique in design, some quaint features, rooms are adequate. There needs to be plug sockets near to mirrors. The gym needs the equipment looking at, as most of it doesn’t work. Overall a good hotel & would probably stay there again

Good location but expensive, dark and dingy
Hotel is in a great location and has a nice spa. Steam room was out of order on our visit. The rooms and decor are old and feel dark and dingy. Staff were friendly and attentive. Overall this hotel is only worth it for the location but I think there are better options in the city centre. Parking was €70 per night on top of the room in their garage.
