Very clean, prompt host, great property
I have nothing but good things to write about this rental. Stayed here for a few days in early Nov. 1.The house was SO CLEAN. Plenty of towels and linens available. Bathrooms, kitchen, etc had been cleaned thoroughly before our arrival. 2. The host was prompt and timely in responses for the few questions I had. Wifi was fast and reliable. 3. It’s an older house with a great deal of charm and character. The house heated fast & well even with temps into the 50s. 4. We were able to cook and use all facilities as needed. Basic supply of kitchen utensils to use. 5. a nice perk of the trip was the deer and wildlife we could observe from inside the house or on the porch.

Cabin
We stayed 6 weeks in our B & B. We were comfortable and stress free. Everyday we went to the different restaurants in the area and went site seeing in the area. Our owner of the cabin has suggestions for site seeing. Enjoyed going to surrounding towns to see what each town had to offer. Overall, our stay was great and we would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a B & B in the area.

Close to everything in Bandera yet quiet and private
This small house is great for family and the dog too. It is in the country; we saw deer out the window every day. Yet close drive to downtown so close to everything there is to do in Bandera, including horseback riding. Small but fully stocked kitchen, and high speed internet and cable TV. So all the comforts of the city plus the peace and quiet, and big yard / property to enjoy.

We have made many trips to Bandera and we have to say this was the best place we stayed at.. the host max was awesome to work with and answered all our questions. I will definitely make this my go to place in Bandera..

Lots of character.
The inside of the house was spotlessly clean and had tons of charm. Max was great about communicating. It was a nice quiet place to spend a weekend. The neighborhood around it looked pretty rundown but it was quiet which was appreciated. Overall a unique place to spend a few days near Bandera.

The house is on acreage just outside of a country town. There are areas of woods, native flowers, and grasses but not a lawn per se. The deer and wildlife need their habitat. I do have the pasture areas mowed a few times a year, but not every week.

Blast from the Past
Wow!! This was an awesome home w tons of charm. We enjoyed every aspect of the property. Everywhere you looked there was trinkets and treasures that reminded each of us of our grandma’s house. House was super clean and had everything we needed to feel right at home. Tons of cardinals and birds as at every window was bird feeders. We even had the local axis herd come visit Saturday night.

The neighborhood driving to the property was less than desirable. The layout of the house was very inconvenient. One bath was immediately adjacent to the kitchen and across the house from the bedrooms. Most of the windows had no coverings at all. I felt uncomfortable in the house at night even with the limited outside lighting. There is no outside lighting at the back of the house. I believe it was overpriced considering all the above and the description of the property was misleading.

Once in a while you get someone who won’t be happy no matter what you do to try to accommodate them. I even gave a partial refund to this one but that didn’t help. Please read my other reviews.

A place that feels like a home
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely cabin on the outskirts of town. It's just a few minutes from Bandera but it feels like you are much farther out. As a person who loves retro appliances and furnishing this place was beyond my expectations. There was plenty of room for four adults to spread out and have time to themselves. I appreciate that the kitchen had just about every utensil or gadget you could ever need and there were ample condiments and spices. A lovely place that I will visit again.

A step back in time with all the modern conveniences!
We're from NJ and this was our first visit to Texas. We visited Austin & San Antonio before our 3 night stay at the Anchorage. We all agreed this was the best part of our trip! The house felt like a completely authentic Texas experience to us. Everywhere you turn in the house and every drawer you open contains authentic and charming details of the '50s. From the artwork on the walls to the cookware and dinnerware, to the cool retro furniture...the house feels loving curated. The only things that are modern are the things you would want - excellent air conditioning, great water pressure in the showers, comfy beds with immaculate bedding and towels, an excellent stereo system and every possible tool and utensil you could want for cooking. It feels very apparent that the owner has tried to provide everything he could think of that you might want or need at the house. I loved that there were several birdfeeders hanging and birds immediately showed up when I filled them. The location of the house could not be better for visiting Bandera, trailriding with Bandera Historical Trailrides and the rodeo on Memorial Day weekend. We fell in love with Texas and will be back. Thanks Max!

Loved the peace and quite.
This is a great property if your looking to feel like you got away from the world. And the best part is your like a few min from downtown. Hard to believe your not 30 miles away... Loved seeing the Deer each morning and the the different birds. The mosquitos will get after you too, so be prepared with bug spray. It would be nice to have access to the lake/River, but you can see it over the fence from the porch.

Bandera Bunkhouse
The bunkhouse was the perfect place for us to totally unwind, listen to the leaves and birds, and just relax. Although close to roadways, the property feels very secluded and private. A nearby pond attracted Canadian geese and Mexican squealer ducks. Deer roam and cross the property. If we sat very still while on the patio, they would approach and eat seed I had thrown down for the birds. At night, the fire pit and swing was our favorite spot, with a front row view of the stars and planets through the clear, dark skies. The house has all the comforts, and the overall feel of being in a beloved family member's home back in the day. The furnishings were in fact, some that we both recall our grandparents having in their homes in Southeast and Far West Texas. Very homey indeed!! The owner accommodated some special needs we had for check in and was helpful in every way. We hope to stay again in the future.

Family-friendly escape
We very much enjoyed our stay at the Anchorage. The house is absolutely charming, and my kids got a big kick out of the retro Texana and fifties touches. The house is big enough for a family of four to spread out but with plenty of common spaces for game playing, meals, or a movie night on the couch. The kids had fun roaming the lot and watching the numerous deer that wandered the property. The neighborhood itself wasn't what I'd call scenic to walk around, but the house has ample trees to screen the surrounding roads, and the neighbors were very friendly when we walked our dog. Very near swimming in the Medina at Ranger Crossing, and easy driving distance to hiking options. My husband also enjoyed a great 20-mile bike ride from the front door, if you're into cycling. Max was great to deal with, and we'd definitely come back! Thanks for a relaxing getaway!

This place was amazing! We loved watching the deer first thing in the morning and evenings too. The birds were a great treat too! This house was very special because of its history. We were looking for a weekend get away and this house served well as a home base for hiking at Garner State Park and Hill Country Natural area. The house was great and my family really enjoyed feeding the deer off the back porch. Will definitely be back!

Nice wooded property with old home with classic charm. Could use a few upgrades but we enjoyed our stay very much. We were able to enjoy the area around Bandera to go horseback riding at the Merrick Ranch and hiking at Lost Maples and cooling off in the Medina River at Ranger Crossing just about 3 miles from the property. .

Amazing home!
What a treat to stay at this lovely home. The house was spotless, everything functioned well, and the setting was quiet and peaceful. I fed the deer, ate, and hung out on the shaded porch watching the world slowly go by. Best of all is the owner's fantastic collection of vintage Texana. (I kind of felt like I was staying in LBJ's boyhood home...)

This house is a gem in hill country. It was built in the 1940's and was decorated in great detail to the era! Very quaint and super comfortable. Lots of creature comforts were included, such as extra toiletries, towels, and blankets as well as extra condiments for cooking, etc. There was plenty of space for a family of 4 to spread out or gather together. We enjoyed seeing fireflies for the first time in 15 years and watch deers cross the property in the early mornings and evenings. While not on the river, it was a very short drive to some of our favorite spots on the Medina. We hope to stay here again.

A sweet step back in time
We enjoyed our anniversary weekend at Max's Anchorage cabin. Excellent AC to beat the summer heat! Plenty of room for us to spread out with 2 teens. We truly appreciated being able to bring our beloved pup along too. The cabin is VERY clean and well stocked with everything you might need. It is filled with interesting and unique vintage pieces so, for folks like us, it felt like a treasure hunt at every turn! The only drawbacks we found were things the owner can't control... the property is pretty well screened by trees and the cabin is tucked back off the road but, it's a little less off the beaten path than we expected. The road noise is noticeable and we had a direct view of the neighbors as they mucked about in their back yard. Still, those things didn't truly interfere with our enjoyment of the space. We spent our days playing in the Medina River and enjoyed sitting on the front porch in the mornings and evenings to watch the deer and birds pass through. WiFi was strong for watching family movies at night. Max is a thoughtful and responsive host and gave us recommendations for a celebration takeout meal and scenic drives. Overall, would highly recommend this place for those seeking an escape from the city and those who love staying in unique and well cared for homes.

We loved our stay in Bandera at the Anchorage Ranch House! Pretty much in town (very close to everything), but very secluded and a lot of deer to watch. We just put some corn out and they all came running! Some were even bedded down just outside the yard. Everything we needed for the stay was provided...above and beyond. We will visit again!

Best rental ever! Most comfortable and perfectly decorated!
Everything about this historic treasure of a cabin/house is perfect. Cozy, well decorated, well stocked, comfy, and out of town, but not too far out of town for Bandera experiences and day trips to San Antonio or the Hill Country. We will make this an annual visit if not bi-annual at least. LOVE loved it!!

Perfect Cabin
Exactly what we needed for our hike and bike trip with our dog and motorcycles. Great cabin with personality and all conveniences. Great location close to town and to "twisted sister" roads.

We had a great time at this cabin. The dog was so overwhelmed by how much she could see and smell that it took her a while to relax. Every morning and evening the deer would come around. We saw a 4 point young buck even. I would highly recommend staying here.
