Slopeside Beech Mtn - Ski-In/Ski-Out - Beat the Heat - Biking + Mountain Views
We bought this place because of the location, and it's the reason guests keep coming back. Lift 1 is a 2-minute walk from the door. In winter that means no resort parking, no shuttles, no driving in ski boots. In summer it means 70 degree days when Charlotte, Raleigh, Atlanta and Florida are absolutely sweltering. Either way, you're in the right place.
"Clean, cozy, and a great location. Stayed three years in a row. That says it all." - Paul F., returning guest
WINTER - WALK TO THE SLOPES
If you've ever hunted for parking at a ski resort at 8:30am you'll get why this matters. The slopes are a 2-minute walk. Guests tell us they park when they arrive and don't move their cars until they leave. Ski out in the morning, come back for lunch and warm up by the fireplace then, head back out. Kids who are old enough can come and go on their own - several families have told us this was the best part of the trip.
Walk to Lift 1 - no shuttle, no parking fees, no crowds
17 trails, snowtubing, Alpine Village dining and Beech Mountain Brewing Co. all walkable
Gas fireplace inside, outdoor firepit for s'mores and stargazing after dark
80-100 inches of snow annually - 4WD/AWD with snow chains strongly recommended Oct-Apr
"So easy to get to the slopes - literally just carry your skis a few feet down the road and you are right at the lift!!" - Sue A., 2-year returning guest
SUMMER - COOL AIR WHEN EVERYONE ELSE IS MELTING
Summers here stay in the low 70s. Evenings are cool enough for a light jacket. We get a lot of families from Florida and the Southeast who come back every year specifically for this - it's a completely different world up here at 5,500 feet.
2-minute walk to the Beech Mountain Resort Summer Concert Series - great regional acts on summer weekends. Not into concerts? You can enjoy the music from the deck with a drink in hand
Lift-assisted mountain biking at the resort - load your bike on the chairlift, ride world-class downhill trails (May-Aug, Thu-Sun)
Emerald Outback Trail System - 7 miles of hiking and biking trails from 4,700 to 5,400 ft, trailhead minutes away
5506 Skybar at the summit - scenic chairlift rides, live music, panoramic Blue Ridge views
Disc golf, pickleball, kayaking and fishing at Buckeye Lake, gem mining, farmers market in town
"Location is perfect - summer concert, mountain biking, lift access. Waking up each morning with 3 deer in our yard was an added and unexpected bonus. We will be back!!!" - William A., summer guest
FALL - THE BEST KEPT SECRET SEASON
Beech Mountain gets some of the earliest and most dramatic fall color in NC. Peak is usually the first week of October. The views from the deck are genuinely something. Fewer crowds, shoulder pricing, and the weather is still great well into October.
Mile High Kite Festival on Labor Day Weekend
Land of Oz reopens for special fall events - a Beech Mountain tradition worth checking out
Drive the Blue Ridge Parkway, hike to the overlooks, watch the mountain turn gold
Cool evenings around the outdoor fireplace - this is what fall in the mountains is supposed to feel like
THE NIGHT SKY
Bring binoculars. At 5,500 feet with almost no light pollution the sky on a clear night is spectacular - the Milky Way, shooting stars, the works. The outdoor firepit, smores, a clear night, and nowhere to be in the morning. That combination is hard to beat.
THE HOUSE
"One of the nicest and best-appointed vacation rentals we have ever stayed in. The owners have put a lot of thought and care into it." - John C.
We updated the house in 2022 - new flooring, appliances, and heating throughout. The main level is open concept with a gas fireplace and big windows looking out at the mountain. The kitchen gets mentioned in almost every review - granite countertops, updated appliances, fully stocked with everything you need to cook real meals. Seats 6 at the table and 4 more at the island. Main level has central AC for summer.
The three bedrooms are on the lower level:
Primary suite - queen bed, ensuite bathroom, private deck with mountain views, smart TV
Guest room - queen bed, private ground-level deck, smart TV
Bunk room - two bunk beds (4 twins), smart TV. Kids fight over this room.
Guest room and bunk room share a second full bathroom
Portable fans in all bedrooms - at this elevation nights cool off fast and most guests sleep great
Outside there's a wraparound deck, outdoor firepit, and BBQ grill. Deer wander through most mornings. On summer weekends you can hear the concert from the resort. Multiple spots to catch the sunset and the night sky. The house is stocked the way we'd want it stocked - games, extra blankets, spices, coffee grinder, enough cookware for real dinners. Guests notice the details. One reviewer mentioned finding extra remote batteries in the kitchen junk drawer. That's the idea. Fiber WiFi throughout and a dedicated desk in the primary bedroom if you're working remotely.
LOCATION
Two minutes on foot to the ski slopes, mountain bike park, concert series, chairlift rides, and the Alpine Village. That's the location.
5-10 minutes by car: Emerald Outback Trail System, Buckeye Recreation Center (lake, kayaking, tennis, pickleball), Fred's General Mercantile, Flat Top Brewing, Brick Oven Pizzeria
30-45 minutes: Grandfather Mountain, Banner Elk, Boone, Valle Crucis, Watauga Lake, Blue Ridge Parkway, whitewater rafting on the Watauga River
GOOD TO KNOW
Stairs: The entrance is at the rear of the house. From the parking, exterior stairs and landscape steps bring you around the side to the entrance at the back. Inside there's an original spiral staircase between the two levels - it's charming but narrow. Please factor this in if anyone in your group has mobility issues. Not ideal for very young children on the stairs unsupervised.
Winter driving: We get 80-100 inches of snow annually. 4WD or AWD with snow chains is strongly recommended October through April. Prepare properly and it's magical, come unprepared and mountain roads are unforgiving.
Studio apartment: There's a separate studio on the lowest level with its own completely independent entrance. You share only the parking area and the exterior stairs up to the main house.
Cameras: Three outdoor Ring cameras at the entrances for guest safety. No cameras inside.
Holiday check-in/out carries an additional $100 fee. Maximum stay is 21 days.
Guests come back here year after year - some for the skiing, some for the summer cool, some just because it became their family's place. We hope it becomes yours too!
"I don't think we will ever stay anywhere else in Beech Mountain." - Caroline M.
