About this property
Authentic timber lodge located in Devon's heart at the edge of glorious Dartmoor
BUTTERCUPS - a unique opportunity to stay in one of three really cosy log cabins at Highampton which lies between Hatherleigh and Holsworthy. Our lodges are constructed from 8" pine logs and are exceptionally warm and welcoming. We offer clean, comfortable accommodation that has views which are absolutely fantastic - right across miles of beautiful Devon countryside to Dartmoor in the distance. South facing with undercover patio. Parking on your own driveway alongside your lodge and garden area for your picnics or for the children to play in. Our lodges are fully furnished for up to four people, and are centrally placed for both the north and south coasts of Devon, and for the North Cornwall Coast - Widemouth Bay and Bude being particular favourites. Holiday for 7/14 nights or take a short break - our lodges take 4 people comfortably in a main bedroom with a double bed and two twins in the second bedroom.
The lodges and site do not really suit very young children so no-one under the age of 4 please unless it's been discussed and agreed.
The kitchen has an under-counter fridge and freezer, electric oven with ceramic hob and a microwave and in the lounge there's a large smart TV and recently upgraded superfast Wi-Fi throughout. The recently upgraded shower room has an electric shower and the water is mains, so no problem with pressure! There are heaters in all rooms and a log/coal burner in the living area. The veranda provides useful additional space and, if you have a dog, you can close the gate and enjoy outdoor dining in the knowledge that your dog is secure. 'Superfast' Wi-Fi, toy box with games for young children and a table-tennis table, badminton set and swing-ball with equipment. The village of Hatherleigh is about 4 miles away with a good selection of cafes and shops. There's also a couple of pubs, supermarket + skatepark. The lodges face south towards Dartmoor - with absolutely fantastic views. See our website for more photographs and details.
Highampton is a small village with a pub which is situated in Ruby country with it’s fantastic selection of trails for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. The village of Hatherleigh is about 4 miles away and has a good selection of cafes and shops. There’s also pubs, supermarket and a new skatepark. The bustling town of Okehampton is a further 7 miles away. In the opposite direction about 7 miles away lies the pretty market town of Holsworthy with the beautiful beaches of Bude and Widemouth Bay a further 9 miles away.
We are centrally placed for all parts of Devon and Cornwall. The area is one of peace and tranquility, so if it's a quiet base you want for your holiday, then Dartmoor View Lodges is the place to be.
Highampton is a small village with a pub, school, village hall and visiting post office.
Hatherleigh and Holsworthy are larger and have all the amenities you need. Our site is quiet and tranquil and wildlife is plentiful. In the early morning it is quite possible that you will see deer grazing and there are usually a lot of rabbits around and foxes pay the occasional visit. Birds thrive and we regularly see woodpeckers, tree creepers and buzzards, at dusk the bats come out to feed. Butterflies are also attracted by the many wild flowers that emerge in the spring.
We're very lucky to enjoy really dark night skies, great for star-gazing, due to very little light pollution.

We had a lovely relaxing stay in Buttercup Lodge. The owners went above all our expectation, provided everything you could possibly need plus more. There are games inside and outside to occupy young to old. Will definately be going back.
We all thoroughly enjoyed a well needed break here for a week. The views and sunsets were lovely. We enjoyed eating outside for every single meal. The cabin was well equipped with everything we needed and very clean and tidy.
What a amazing place to stay, so relaxing and quiet. The views are breathtaking.
The lodge was clean and had everything we needed, the host was friendly and very approachable.
I stayed here with my two teenage children and we loved it. Lots to do in the surrounding area, and some lovely places to eat.
Would highly recommended this lodge to anyone who wants a get away from the hussle and bussle of daily life.
We had a perfect stay with us (young family of 5) in one lodge and grandparents in another. Top quality build lodges set in beautiful, peaceful countryside. The children enjoyed playing out in the safe paddock area, and especially enjoyed the outdoor toys available for all. The location gives great location to access north Cornwall and devon, but a little further away from the bustle of a typical coastal break. We loved every minute and hope to return again in the future!
We stayed at the Buttercups Lodge. It was a very comfortable stay and also very serene and peaceful. The location of the lodge is ideal for a family or couple who want to go exploring different parts of Devon and also a drive to Cornwall. The lodge has everything you need and the view of Dartmoor is absolutely breathtaking from it. Andrew and Sally were brilliant hosts and kept in communication with us whenever we needed it. Thankyou so much for our wonderful stay. My six year old didn't want to leave!! Have already recommended it the stay for family and friends.

Log cabin
Andrew and Sally were polite and friendly, The log cabin had a few issues, the rug in the lounge part was dirty and grubey (could do with a wash or change) even tho the cabin was allowing dogs, outside we thought was a big issue sitting place was lovely but notice the apple trees very nice in bloom but when the apples are rotton it attracts a lot of wasps so best time to sit outside is when the sun goes down (shame) View lovely. View. The log cabin was adequate but when advertise in brochure it looks modern but we found it old and tied. The shower needs attention the back part was wobbly, In all it just needs a tidy up.
Wat een geweldige week hebben wij gehad. De lodge was uitermate comfortabel en het uitzicht fenomenaal!
Andrew was zeer behulpzaam. De omgeving indrukwekkend mooi. Een plek om naar terug te keren.
Absolutely brilliant from beginning to end spotlessly clean well equipped and great hosts there when you needed them but let you enjoy your own space beautiful scenery and very peaceful and relaxing Had some lovely meals out at nearby pubs also very comfortable bed at the lodge Many thanks Sally and Andrew
We had a great time staying at this property, its in a beautiful spot and easy to get lots of places in Devon and cornwall, the lodge we stay had everything you could need and immaculate and Andrew was super helpful.
We have just returned from a fantastic week staying at Dartmoor View*. We stayed in a very clean and comfortable wooden lodge that suited our needs perfectly. We used it as a base to visit various tourist locations in both Devon and Cornwall. It was ideal for this if you do not mind driving for an hour or so each way. The owners Andrew and Sally provided a fuss free welcome and were most helpful throughout our stay. Although I did not take my bike, I would say this would be a great base for cyclists who share my passion for road cycling. The only downside is that there were no shops within walking distance so stock up for a few days if you are not planning to eat out at the various pubs and restaurants within a 10 mile radius.
*They are not joking! The views was fantastic!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the lodge is just lovely, clean and it feels cosy and homely. The kitchen has everything you need, fridge, freezer a good oven and hob. Nice hot shower and towels provided.
Plenty of space for my son to run around, lots of local shops in Okehampton and Bude is a 35 minute drive.
The location and view is stunning, so peaceful and beautiful even on a dull day... if you want to get away from it all, this is the place. We have rebooked for next year!
The pictures do not do this place justice, the cabin is stunning and well equipped and the view is breath taking.
We had a wonderful stay with our children (9 & 2), will most certainly be returning and can't recommend enough.

brilliant
We have stayed in many holiday rentals but would put this one top of the list.
Comfortable and amazingly well equipped just take personal toiletries and food , the rest is all there. Sally and Andrew the owners even greeted us on arrival with " do you need milk"
Sit on the veranda in the evening with a glass of wine and watch the sun go down on that amazing view.

Wonderful stay at Dartmoor View Lodges
Just enjoyed a wonderful relaxing weekend at Dartmoor View Lodges. The clean fresh air, the wonderful views & the total peace and quiet are a wonderful antidote to the hustle bustle of everyday life. The lodges are cozy, clean and spacious with wood burning stoves for colder days and lovely outdoor patios and BBQ’s for warmer days. Sally and Andrew are fabulous hosts. They make you feel very welcome and are there if you need them yet there is so much space and with a private drive leading to the lodges, you won’t even notice they are there most of the time. There are some great local walks and the lodges offer a great base for exploring the lovely Devon countryside and beaches. Whilst we were there we had a great day at Exmouth Beach. Thank you Sally & Andrew. We had a lovely stay and hope to return for longer. xxxx

Delightful Find
Family holiday in Buttercups for two weeks in August. Wifi was great as it supported video & music streaming. Web pictures of cabin did not do it justice. Linen & towel change on middle weekend, plenty of room on site to exercise our family dog. Helpful owners when needed otherwise did not know they were there. Good location for visiting North Devon & North Cornwall, as plenty to entertain and occupy all the family.

Two wonderful weeks in the south-west of England
We had two wonderful weeks in Devon, Cornwall and the Dartmoor.
Our lodges were a wonderful accommodation and base for our excursions into the dreamlike landscape. We have always gladly returned to our accommodation and felt very comfortable there. There was nothing missing for us. Equipment and supervision by you were really great.
It was not easy for us to return to everyday life.
Already we miss the great view of the Dartmoor ...

Thoroughly recommend comfortable lodge
We needed a break before the school holidays start and the grand-parenting gets going, and chose this location for a quiet yet convenient area to visit. Andrew and Sally made us very welcome and the high standard of the lodges meant our week at the beginning of July was excellent, with the uncontrollable bonus of good weather.
We look forward to returning some time

Very comfortable accomodation in a lovely location
Sally and Andrew were most welcoming and helpful throughout. The accommodation was clean and comfortable with beautiful views over Dartmoor. It was lovely to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet. Coast and country are only a short drive away. Shall definitely be returning and have already recommended these lodges to family and friends. Thank you for a very enjoyable holiday Sally and Andrew.
