The Montage is located in a community called Palmetto Bluff which is tranquil & stunning. That said, one should be well aware of one significant issue; the hotel is "pet friendly." If you appreciate accommodations that do not smell like wet dog, stay away. The carpets are disgusting. I have included some pictures but unfortunately I cannot include the sensation of smell in my review. The stains in the carpet are partially masked by the rug pattern but trust that, in person, the stains are plentiful. Also note, that the pictured carpet had been “deep cleaned.” And finally, the photo of chewed wooden legs are from 2 separate rooms.
My sinuses went haywire & ruined all 10 days of our trip in the area & beyond. I STRONGLY suspect there had been cats in the room at some point due to the explosive reaction I suffered. I pleaded to find us a carpet-free room which they finally did on our 3rd day of a 5 night stay. A manager actually asked “have we done anything wrong?” and “the website says we are pet friendly and there are pictures of carpet there as well.” Really?
No amount of the hotel's "deep cleaning" can nullify the allergens or smell. In fairness I have given the hotel 3 stars for two reasons. The grounds are fabulous & the pet policy may appeal to some. That said, benefit from my VERY unfortunate experience and STAY AWAY IF YOU HAVE ANY LEVEL OF ALLERGY OR SIMPLY DON’T WANT TO LIVE WHERE DOG AND PERHAPS OTHER ANIMALS HAVE BEEN TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS FOR YEARS
