After the magnificent, but foreboding sheer cliffs, the open sandy beach was a welcome breath of emptiness. The union of water and sand, constantly shifting, rising and retreating is a story that unfolds beautifully on a warm autumn day. I spent a moment to breathe in the crescendo of salty waves caressing the afternoon air and thought what a splendid day this has been.

The journey for the first day was about 12 miles (19-20 km). We were walking into a fairly stiff wind for most of the day, but there was no rain and not much climbing. So, all in all, a pleasant stroll along the beach with amazing scenery. Highly recommend this hike.

This place is only good, certainly not excellent, because its location is very good( easy access to Cardiff, Bute Park and stadiums), it is very clean and the breakfasts are excellent. However, the room and the ensuite were disappointingly small,especially for the price! Also, with the exception of the lovely breakfast girls, there was little warmth in the welcome at the main reception desk.Certainly, the least welcoming place we have stayed in for a while!

Carew Castle

Regarded as one of the most impressive castles in Wales, visitors to Carew Castle can trace the structure’s history from Norman fortifications to when it became an Elizabethan country home owned by Sir John Perrot, possibly an illegitimate son of Henry VIII, before its eventual abandonment in the 17th Century.
