This charming house was everything we hoped for. Wonderful neighborhood, location, fabulous view and roomy back deck. Simple and gorgeous!

Comfortable, welcoming cabin, great hiking above
Thanks for a relaxing week. Each day started with a spectacular sunrise. Excellent, uncrowded hiking in the mountains above the neighborhood. Note that the traffic on the road below is audible from the deck, but the view is breathtaking and the neighborhood quiet.
Nice house, but looks like it’s still 1970 inside. The stained carpets really should be replaced.

Shabby, Dated, Inaccessible and Dirty
We chose this property because of the view of the lake and in that we were not disappointed. It was stunning. (There is some traffic noise from the deck.) The beds were comfortable with nice linens, and there was plenty of hot water.
There were, however, some serious flaws. The downstairs carpet was filthy and badly stained, even torn in one spot, and the only chair in the living room was dirty and both arms ripped open. There was a faint smell of pet urine and stains on some of the baseboards. I emailed photos to management upon arrival and was told that the feedback would be passed on to the owners. That did not do anything for us! The faucet in the only bathtub/shower was broken, and fell off at the slightest touch, and the bathroom flooring was torn and very beat up.
It was very inconvenient having the master bedroom and bath up the steep, spiral staircase and after one night we gave up and moved downstairs. This should be disclosed up front, as it is not appropriate for even fit seniors like us, or anyone with mobility issues. Since there is no dresser in the small downstairs bedroom, there was no place to unpack. The kitchen is very tiny, with only room for one person.
Housekeeping was less than acceptable, despite a hefty cleaning fee. There were cobwebs in windows facing the deck, empty liquid soap containers, no tissue, and filthy carpet. There is no bathmat in the tub and it is very slippery.
The house next door is collapsing, and surrounded by cyclone fencing. There was a ratty old couch out by the curb only a couple feet from the rental, adding to the sense of a derelict property. Why was this not disclosed?
The price on the website is misleading if not deceptive. After adding numerous fees, a required damage waiver policy, and taxes, it was almost double what is advertised, even on weekdays. At $443.50 per night this is the most we have ever paid, and we were shocked to find the property so run down. We went with a private rental company to avoid the Air BNB fees, but this is just as bad or worse.
We found the unnecessarily threatening, nasty tone of the policies on charges for early check in/check out, and charges if the TV settings are changed quite off-putting. When we sent Management a list of our concerns and disappointments, they offered only a $200 credit. A refund for one free night, at the minimum, would have been appropriate.
Property definitely needs updating, but we could look beyond that because of the view and outdoor deck. The interior of the property grew on us each day until at the end we didn't want to leave. Important to note: the downstairs bathroom is quite awkward (feels a bit like an outhouse).

Great Views But House Needs Work
3.5 stars.
Overall our 8 days in Carnelian Bay was outstanding. The neighborhood, the vistas, the entire experience was the trip of a lifetime.
As far as the house is concerned, waking up every morning to the absolutely spectacular view of Lake Tahoe took my breath away daily. The porch and the view of the lake and the mountains are what makes this house so phenomenal. The location as well as the price point are also incredible things to factor in. And frankly, my experience with the rental office was really good. They were prompt in there replies and they were 100% accommodating to me and my family.
My issue with the house had to do with the cleanliness as well as the outdated features. When we arrived there were visible cobwebs on the porch, and on the light fixtures, and also on the supporting beams that structure the loft. That’s a big problem for me. It’s annoying to pay a cleaning fee for a house that isn’tcleaned with a discerning eye.
The deck itself was filthy. I had to clean the table 3 times before it was clear of any grime that was covering it. It’s pretty obvious to me it hadn’t been cleaned in months. The deck was also not swept, and the cushions on the lounge chairs were absolutely filthy. I let the rental office know and they were very apologetic which I appreciated.
I did ask them why the umbrella that was in the pictures for the listing wasn’t on the deck and I didn’t get a response on that. It would’ve been nice if the pictures were an accurate reflection of what the porch looks like but it’s certainly not a dealbreaker.
This house has not been updated since the 60s. Most electrical outlets were completely shredded, my cell phone charger and the lamps barely stayed plugged into the wall which really sucks.
I understand that that kitchen is too small for a dishwasher and I also understand that the price for this house is extremely affordable so I knew what I was getting into when I rented this house. What I didn’t anticipate was how uncomfortable and old the living room furniture would be. The owners could easily buy a couch and a chair, not even an expensive one! Just a new one that’s actually comfortable. The living room furniture needs to be thrown out.
Other than that… I knew that the house was not going to be modern. I don’t know if I would necessarily return, I would if it was cleaner and updated. Thank you!
Incredible View is why I am rating this place so high. The view outweighs the condition of the inside which was OK. The inside needs some work. This is an older place and was acceptable. If you are expecting a nice and new shiny place, this isnt for you. If you are looking for an incredible view of Lake Tahoe and are OK with an older unit, this place is for you
The property has a stunning lake view. The place is small and dated but cozy. We enjoyed our stay but was disappointed that the twin bed in the bedroom was not usable. It was very soft and anyone trying to sleep on it would just sink in. There was no dishwasher and all appliance are quite old. We couldn’t figure out how to use the oven/range. We also notice some areas were very dusty. Overall it was a nice stay.
It's all about the view with this property. The view of Lake Tahoe from the large deck is spectacular. The interior of the unit is a bit old and funky. The downstairs bedroom and kitchen are tiny. But for what we were there for it was perfect. It is dog friendly and we brought our dog. At the east end of Nightingale, about a half mile from the property, there is a trail/fire road that was perfect for walking with the dog through the woods It goes on forever so you can work off as much of your dog's energy as needed.
Qbsolutlry gorgeous location. As soon as you walk in, or even drive up, you're greeted with insane views of the lake.
The outside is the perfect A-frame cabin. The inside however could use updating. It looks pretty original and the stair case is missing screws and held together by a clamp making it not fit for elders or kids.
Kitchen is small, not for community cooking. However the fire place is adorable and the views and location of cabin makes up for everything.
Close to everything you'd want to visit and the star gazing at night is unlike anything you'll witness. Wake up to sunrise over the bay and your day is off to a grand start.
Would definitely rent again.
We had a very relaxing long weekend. The location was amazing and convenient for day trips to Donner Lake, Squad Valley, Mt. Rose and South Tahoe. We’ll definitely be back.
Specifically chose this property because it is dog friendly and had incredible back deck with unobstructed view of the lake. A-frame cabin was clean and rustic. Not large but perfect size for a couple. Property management was easy to work with and responsive. Back deck has loungers, table for 4 and gas BBQ. Was a lovely stay and hope to be back.
