About this property

Dock of the Bay

  • Dock of the Bay is located in the Golden Triangle of Coles Bay, sitting on the edge of the lovely blue waters of Oyster Bay which nestles beneath the foot of the Hazards Mountain Range. The ever-changing views of the Hazards, especially at sunrise and sunset is truly magical. The seasonal activities upon the bay, is entertaining to watch from Dock of the Bay.

The Hazard Mountain Range serves as a gateway to the famous Wineglass Bay on the Freycinet National Park peninsula. Dock of the Bay is located within close proximity to these magnificent wonders. With an easy, picturesque 3min walk to Wineglass Bay Cruises, the bay is yours to explore. A short drive or bicycle ride through the nature trails will have you arriving at the start of the Wineglass Bay Lookout trek.

With less than a minute walk from Dock of the Bay, you will find yourself at the hub of local Tasmanian food and drink, weather you choose to eat out or takeaway. The convenience store has your daily necessities and a wide range of Tasmanian alcoholic beverages and fresh food to cook at Dock of the Bay. Your local Pub, Iluka Tavern is a 3min drive and serves fresh Tasmanian seafood, steaks and local Beer, Wine & Spirits.

As you approach Dock of the Bay your vision is drawn to the looming Hazards above with the Bay glistening below. Once your eyes lower, you will take in the immediate connection the house has with Tasmania. The Architectural whale and rustic Tasmanian Tiger pays homage to your surrounds. Walking the spotted gum deck for that first glimpse inside as you turn the key.

Entering the house, the homage continues with the stunning Tasmanian Blackheart Sassafras bookcase being the first to consume you. This hand-built unit by the owners is underlit, giving ambience at night. Displaying a beautiful range of books relating to Tasmania and Australia provides guests with entertainment, comfort and local insight during their stay. The Bay and Hazard Mountains flood the interior as you move through the living areas. The Butcher Block table serves as a gathering for drinks and food, with in-built USB ports. The wood fireplace is a symbolisation of Tasmania’s re-known everchanging climate and adds warmth throughout the house.

Moving alongside the modern and functional kitchen that supplies all your cooking needs, you will notice the Tasmanian Artwork at the doorway of the Main Bedroom. Further into the room the large corner window frames the view for you, inviting you to relax on the day lounge beneath. With a supply of games and reading matter this lounge is perfect for unwinding and taking in the morning sun rise upon the Bay. The rest of the Main Bedroom is surrounded in the warmth of Tasmanian Blackbutt. The King bed is dressed with Tasmanian wool manufacturer Waverley Mills throw blankets and cushion covers, adding to the comfort of the TEMPUR mattress and duck/goose down pillows for a great night’s sleep. Entering the Ensuite immediately offers you the exquisite Architectural design and gorgeous tile colour complimenting the blue Bay, that you can view whilst showering. Every detail is fore thought for the guests to feel good in this space.

The 2nd Bedroom captivates Ochre colours to depict the Tasmanian Landscape. None truer than the local Artwork above the bed of Cradle Mountain. With the owner’s photography throughout the house, the display of wombats in this room meets the Tasmanian wildlife brief with an accent of Tasmanian Blackbutt. Following the Main Bedroom for a comfy sleep, sink your head into the duck/goose down pillows with the Waverley Mills throw blanket and cushion covers adding warmth in the Tasmanian climate. Not to miss out, this room has spectacular views of Oyster Bay and the magical Hazard Mountain Range.

The beautiful Tasmanian Blackheart Sassafras follows into the Main Bathroom, giving guests ample shelving for their toiletries etc. You will find the washing machine, iron/ironing board, clothes rack and Dyson within.

Leading out onto the back deck you are well undercover with the gorgeous Spotted Gum ceiling encircling you. The well-equipped BBQ is a bonus for a fun gathering with nature at your doorstep.

This is Tasmanian nature at its best, and you can make your stay whatever you desire. Dock of the Bay will surely enhance your experience, leaving you wanting to come back for more.

The property was in a great location, with a wonderful view across Coles Bay. It was very near to a great cafe (Geographe) that we visited regularly, and convenience store that was very well stocked for a small outlet. It was also close to the nearby cruise jetty, and perfect for a relaxing stay.

Great location close to walks and coffee shop

The house was lovely, great location. Nice verandah with views from all area. Nice big bathroom/ laundry. The beds were very comfortable. The cafe is only 1 minute walk away. The start to the walks is also very close. I would stay again.

The tap water was undrinkable. We had to buy water. No oven mitts so we used a teatowel. Check in and out times could be later. Shower floor dangerously slippery when wet.

Relaxing

Nice property with good basic amenities. No WiFi - that was disappointing. Both bedrooms don't have any form of cooling. A fan of some sort would have been nice. Generally a good property.

Great Location and views

We found the place very clean and comfortable. The views were fabulous looking out over the Hazards and water and is very close to the jetty. Kitchen was well appointed with plenty of crockery and utensils. The bathroom was very clean and large with the laundry having every thing we could need. It was in very close proximity to the local cafe's, post office and general store, only a short 2-3 minute walk The only things that we could fault was that the main door was clear glass with no covering or frosting so it felt a little like a goldfish bowl in the evening and was right next to the bathroom so if you were doing a quick dash to the loo in the middle of the night make sure to cover up. Also just inside the door the floor was a bit uneven so had to be mindful not to trip. Nothing major and will not put us off coming back to stay here which we are planning to do in the new year. Overall very happy and would highly recommend.
