Partly my own fault for not recognising that the Bodnant was at the end of the supermarket and searching the loacal countryside for furnace farm (farmhouse) which i visually thought to be standing alone - After being lost for more than 1 hour and my phone battery almost out - wrong phone numbers given were actually for the supermarket - no answer- i was very concerned, however, i called my son who googled a visual in order to place me where sat nav would/could not and vuala- i was saved a night in the car in the country. Everything else perfect. Recommendation, pick up the phone and help or email the details of the tiny location - otherwise an absolutely perfect stay. Having found the key on a table i have not discussed this with the person in charge and to be fair i do need things idiotproofing.

One-up-all-up and sort yourself out check-in.

There is nobody to check you in - just a notice on a door pointing you to go find the key yourself. Not very welcoming at all. Although the place is well presented, it is not the best under the surface. The beds are old - see other reviews about these - and the place is very noisy. You can hear everything from other rooms! The breakfast was average at best. The restaurant and bar were closed with no notice so don't expect that to be open. The farm shop was not fully stocked and we had to go and find somebody to serve us at the tills. It seems that nobody cares and it is showing. I would not go back. Plenty of other places in the area with much better service levels.

Perfect one night stay after extending a weeks vacation in Trefriw. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed due to a charity event which we were not informed about and the bar ran out of supplies. Luckily we knew th area and picked up some groceries and made use of the the small kitchen and lounge which is accessible to guests. We enjoyed watching the sunset from the outside dinning area. Creaky floors but a great location for the gardens that has extended hours on Wednesdays until 8pm. We will definitely return as the menu looked divine!

Schön und ruhige Anlage. Bei später Anreise ist kein Personal anwesend. Es dauert daher bei uns etwas, bis wir den Schlüssel fanden. In der Bestätigung von Bodnant Welsh Food steht aber, wo der Schlüssel zu finden ist. Sonst sehr empfehlenswert.

Disappointing downturn

Service was terrible. Left towels to be changed in bath and they were simply hung back up by staff. Complained and was assured new towels would be sent. They weren't. Breakfast was poor and any requests or complaints were met with apathy. A consultant was working there at the time of visit, advising the hotel about improvements, and she was very helpful in ensuring breakfast was delivered as ordered on the last day. Overall we were very disappointed with the stay and won't be returning.

Needs some heart

Great location and set up , but let itself down in 3 areas I felt Restaurant closed in the evening Won the award for the worst bed I have slept in -( All 4 of the beds were fake or very old) if you went near edge o bed you were going to fall out,. Not sure what award they won for breakfast , no cont foods , and Sausages were like reheated and dry

lovely place to stay

This is a lovely place to stay, surrounded by nature, beautiful scenery, awesome wildlife, we saw a mother buzzard teaching her young to hunt. Food was also awesome either in the Hayloft or in the tearoom well worth it Staff were very pleasant and nothing was too much trouble will definitely stay here again

Standards have dropped, but the potential is there

We have stayed previously at the accommodation and would rate it 5* then. There have been sweeping changes to both site and staff since then. Whilst the staff now are kind and attentive, there was a distinct lack of knowledge of the check-in, billing, and reservation online details. We had to show staff to our room as we knew where it was, but they didn't! Perhaps this will improve over time. The room was great, but as it was the main suite, I thought the opportunity to encompass the views of the river were spoilt by not having dormer windows, there were just Velux windows in the roof. Facilities in the room were, however, top class and we had a comfortable night in a lovely bed. We has said that as we were the only guests on site, we would have breakfast in the tea room, but it appeared that the Hayloft had been set up for us! There are some great communication gaps in the administration. However, the overall stay was acceptable. We were there for our anniversary and a great night out ended up as a standard night out.

Quiet retreat, great food.

Good reception, interesting history of the buildings etc. The food in the Hayloft Restaurant was excellent. Room was ok but the view was excellent.

Great all round

There was a warm welcome when I arrived and though the single room I booked was small (Tarragon) it was well appointed, comfortable and there was the shared use of a large separate sitting room and kitchen. Car parking is plentiful. I arrived at breakfast only a minute or two before 10.00 but this was not a problem and the staff could not have been more helpful. It was the same when I popped into the wine cellar. I'm sure I will be staying again.

Oh dear.

Neglected to inform me in advance that it would not be possible to eat (as there was a 150-person private party). Not prepared to offer room service. Nearly 8 miles from nearest alternative food option. Nobody able to take payment in the morning. No response to reasonable feedback. Chaotic and unprofessional.

As the room was remarkable value it would churlish to comment on the size of the single room, but it was adequate, very clean, and had some nice touches, like the cafetiere and pack of ground coffee. Being within the up-market farm shop complex was an added pleasure.

This is a guest house NOT a hotel

Upon arrival on Sunday night after a long drive, I was glad to arrive. No signs to indicate where reception was, I entered the bar, and was shown to the room. I was then told the restaurant was closed, as was the bar, and everything in the locale. Was it really too much to provide for a sandwich or something. So then after a long drive I had to go out again, not something I really wanted to do. The restaurant apparently isn’t part of the accommodation, and it’s a completely separate entity, meaning you can’t put the meals and drinks etc on your room tab and pay at the end. While this isn’ the make or break, it was another little annoyance in the list that kept growing. By not allowing me to eat at the restaurant on various occasions, will have cost this 'strange business model', more than the cost of the meal, also I was going to purchase gifts for family and friends etc. from the Farm Shop (one one the reasons I chose to stay), but decided against it based on the experience I have had, and spend my money else where, as they obviously didn’t want it. Conclusion, rant over. The whole place didn’t seem to know where it’s focus was, and as a hotel (as listed on Expedia) 2 - 3 stars tops. But as a guest house (written on signage at the Bodnant Welsh Food) 5 stars, easy. Please decide what you as a customer want before you go, as I wish I had this information before travelling, and it’s not all bad…..

Great customer service.

Following a major problem at the start of our stay Bodnant Welsh Food pulled put all of the stops and provided excellent customer service. Lovely people, lovely place.

Disappointing, cannot see how it's rated 5*

The layout is a bit confusing, hardly any signs to point you to reception. Eventually located a member of staff at the bar. Our bedroom was tiny. As you opened the bathroom door it hit against the bed. Both of us could not walk around the room at the same time as it was we had to pace sideways. The bathroom was no more than a cubby hole, there were no shelving to place your toiletery bags etc. Neither any hooks for items of clothing - the towels were folded on the bed as there wasn't room for them in the bathroom. Guests were invited to use the lounge but we would have preferred to relax in the bedroom - there was one dining chair in the bedroom. Above us was a self contained flat that was occupied that night with an insomniac! Every creak of their footsteps could be heard. The blue dazzling thermometer light in the bedroom did not help to lull us to sleep either. Breakfast was served in the public tea rooms, out of the front door down a pathway and into the café. Table was laid as if you were there for a cup of coffee or a cup of tea and cake. Views from the window were good, friendly and cheerful staff made up for the shortfall of the anticipated 5* expected experience. All in all glad to get home for some much needed shut eye.

February break at Bodnant Welsh Food

Bodnant Welsh Food is an excellent place to stay where the farmhouse has 5 rooms available. We stayed in one of the double rooms and although a little bit on the small size it was spotless and Jackie who runs the farmhouse was an excellent host. The food is of a very high standard and reasonably priced. I would highly recommend staying at Bodnant Welsh Food.
