The natural beauty here is SPECTACULAR! Very quiet and quaint-- a perfect place to unwind. There are a ton of books in the cabin-- you can probably find something that's interesting to read while you're here. Andy clearly has a very interesting history and a family story that's evident throughout the cabin. Since there isn't a dinner place nearby, we had brought a couple of frozen pizzas for dinner on the first night here. However, when we tried to use the electric oven, it started to spew black smoke into the kitchen, so we shut it off immediately and never tried using the stovetop either for fear of triggering the smoke alarm. Fortunately we had an alternate pre-made dinner with us and the microwave did work without a hitch.
As for the cabin, the upstairs is quite comfy, but the basement feels a bit dingy because of a lot of clutter everywhere, nearly every wall is covered in memorabilia and there is a musty-damp smell especially on the Bedding. Numerous wall outlets in the basement do not work. In addition the only bathtub in the house does need to be cleaned (or better yet, replaced)-- the stains on the bathtub floor are awful. The bookshelves could use some cleaning as well to remove dust on the books. In general, there is a lot of dust in the air inside the entire cabin, which unfortunately gets highlighted by the sunlight during sunrise and sunset hours. The entrance stairs to the cabin are a quite uninviting first impression, due to the hodgepodge of bricks/stones supporting its creaky wood rungs.
With a few simple fixes, a little TLC and some clening, this cabin interior would be as spectacular as the surrounding land its located on.
If you are thinking of renting this place, however, make sure that you download offline maps to your phone and communicate with Andy on checkin procedure well before you arrive, while you have a cell signal. Cellphone coverage in Montana is very spotty, and we had no Verizon cell signal in Condon or surrounding areas.
