The Formby Hotel was very inexpensive, quiet and convenient to the Spirit of Tasmania. It's an old hotel and the facilities show their age. However, the room was comfortable, the staff were very friendly, and I had a quiet, restful sleep after a tortuous Bass Strait Crossing. I was perfectly happy with my stay.

It suited my purpose of staying overnight before a morning sail on the Ferry. The food that I had brought to my room was of very high standard. It's a pub with accommodation.

Hotel ideally situated for stopping overnight when arriving late on the ferry, rooms all upstairs but comfortable, a fair bit of noise especially from other guests talking loudly when heading to their rooms and when congregating in the common room. Room was very clean and comfortable - the free upgrade was a lovely surprise. The communal kitchen could be cleaner and tidying but that all depends on guests and still serves its purposes - everything else was tidy and as clean as can be. Check and staff also friendly. Best value to for money you could find
