Cosy and nice looking cottage in the heart of Durham countryside. Our accommodation was very spacious, designed for up to 9 people sharing although there were only 3 of us. Comfy living room with a dining area and open kitchen; disabled friendly. In the living room there was a nice looking fireplace, no real fire though. The television was a bit small for the size of the room and the free view was not working very well; only a few channels were accessible, the others were crashing constantly. The kitchen was well equipped in everything you might need in a self-catering place. The beds were comfy but a bit too soft for me. The whole place had an excellent heating so despite all cold weather we were cosy and warm inside. The only issue with the boiler was hot water in showers. Especially in the evening it was almost impossible to get hot shower, although all taps were fine for this. No idea what the problem was. Another little thing was the cleanliness... I have no idea how that place managed to keep 4 stars. Dust was everywhere, the top of the fridge, inside of the fridge-freezer, room corners, showers and the bath and even the interior doors were just dirty and looked like nobody gave them a proper clean for a long time. If I had something like that in a 4 star hotel, I would complain to the manager. But at the Hamsteels Hall there was actually nobody to talk to most of the time.
