Great getaway!
Homeowners were very welcoming! Fresh eggs, canned jam and sooo much wildlife! Wish we could have stayed on the property more. Perfect for families that want the "farm" experience with a variety of animals with which to interact. Can't wait to bring my grandkids back soon.

Peaceful and heavenly!
Barbara and Chris are the consummate hosts. From check in to check out, going out of their way to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The cabin was clean, spacious and comfortable. We had a wonderful time and we look forward to returning.

Amazing cabin, host & stay!!
Great cozy cabin that offered the relaxation we wanted and needed!! Barbara was beyond kind in including my girl who wanted to see and help with all things farm animals!! Cabin had all the things we needed to enjoy our week. We all slept like babies in the comfy beds!! We would highly recommend to anyone wanting a relaxing getaway!!

The cabin is amazing. The modern updates make it better without taking away from the experience. My daughters absolutely loved everything from the cabin to the animals. Barbara and Chris were great hosts. Really made it feel like visiting family. Will definitely have to make our way back in the future.

So Peaceful!

Charming cabin in a quaint little oasis
We only spent two nights, but thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The cabin was charming and comfortable and the location overlooking a pond surrounded by nature made for a very peaceful and relaxing stay. The hosts were wonderful and everyone enjoyed stopping and saying hi to the goats, pony, donkey and horses every time we came and went. We also really enjoyed exploring the Elkin area. Thanks for everything!

Little paradise
This cabin was wonderful. It was just like the photos and so many simple details. It had everything to cook with, a boat for use on the pond and so much space to explore. The hospitality of the hosts were top notch and the fresh eggs and jam were soo appreciated and sweet. We will definitely be back. This is for sure our new home away from home to rewind and connect with the outdoors. The simple memories we made for Father’s Day are ones that will be cherished!

The cabin was perfect. Beautiful yard and pins, ducks greeted us daily. We loved sitting on the porch rocking chairs. I only wish I had more time to spend there.

Perfect - Get Away
The house is back off the road and behind the main residence. Hosts are extremely nice and accommodating, for whatever that may mean for you. Our kids (10,6,4) fed animals and collected eggs when possible with the hosts, and were treated as family. Hiking nearby, vineyards nearby, or just relax under the large tree at the waters edge. Kids caught some fish during our stay and loved it. No wifi, and extended cell service (verizon). Enough to take a call, but if you are trying to get away.....why? Cottage is updated and basic, and is as described. A good mix of a cabin and a house, not rustic but not modern. Everything you need and quite if you want it to be. Great stay, and the epitome of southern hospitality. Would absolutely go again, put the phones on the counter, and sit by the pond under the tree sipping a beer watching the kids play.

A little piece of heaven
No need to look further - this will always be our ‘home away from home’ when our son and his family come to visit. It took us back in time with the sturdiness of hewn logs, handmade decor, and breathtaking surroundings. The pond and pastures with resident ducks, ponies, goats were pleasant to observe. We also enjoyed a nice fire thanks to wood provided by our host as well as fresh eggs and homemade wild blackberry jam. Who would ever want to leave a place like this?!

Step back in time
Nothing glamorous, but absolutely beautiful views and relaxing environment. If you want a nice quiet place to just relax or be your base while exploring the area, you can't go wrong here. Convenient to Elkin and the many wineries in the area. Barbara is great and gladly gave us a tour of the farm. I wish we had been able to stay longer and hope to return. (No wifi and limited television. Bring a good book, disconnect for a while and enjoy some downtime here.)

Peaceful retreat with amazing hosts
It was a wonderful peaceful birthday weekend for myself and my husband. The cabin is so cozy and inviting. We enjoyed the wood burning stove, fishing in the pond, and spending time with the animals. Then hosts were friendly and delightful. They provided us with fresh eggs and homemade jam.

Wonderfully unique stay with great owners!
The cabin has a unique history and sits on a peaceful and beautiful setting overlooking a pond. The farm animals are fun to see and hear. The cabin is beautifully decorated and fully equipped. Barbara was a joy to meet and work with. An extra treat was meeting and buying homemade honey from hee sister across the way.😉 Great stay! Sandra H

My family of four thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cabin. The landscaping was beautiful and the cabin had some nice touches like the beds being super comfortable. Each evening we fed the horses carrots and went on hikes during the day nearby. We read, slept, cooked out, fished, and just didn’t worry. Barbara was a great host!

A Charming Cabin!

Peaceful getaway
We stayed two nights as an early Valentine’s Day celebration. Enjoyed time at Raffaldini vineyards which is one of our favorites and we highly recommend! Saturday we enjoyed a lovely day with mild temperatures. We hiked to Carter Falls ( excellent recommendation from Barbara) and enjoyed some much needed downtime on the porch watching and listening to the animals and wildlife. Would love to return!

Perfect weekend getaway
We had the absolute best time staying in the cabin on this property. Loved being introduced to the animals on the farm and the pets (Atlas and Clarabelle) too! The fresh eggs and blackberry jam were such a wonderful treat! We needed this weekend sitting by the fire, reading and playing games in perfect cozy cabin. Great little cabin on a very nice property. Relaxation is mandatory without the distraction of WiFi. Nice walks around the farm replaced screen time for the whole family. Elkin is well situated in an area with several things to explore, including Stone Mountain. Excellent trip, hope to return soon to see how big Atlas gets, and the kids miss Clara Belle - their favorite farm cat!

"Cabin Sweet Cabin"
The title of this post is taken from the sign on the back of the main door to the vintage cabin on this amazing property. If you are looking for a clean rustic cabin getaway with modern amenities, this one certainly fits the bill. It exceeded all expectations and made everyone in my family enthusiastic about building a cabin of our own someday. I loved this place. I found so much peace there....peace that I have needed for a very long time. I can't wait to come back (and said so) 5 seconds after exiting onto the main road. The hosts were wonderful and welcoming. This is the real deal and I can't recommend it enough.

Rustic Retreat

Best Host Ever!
For us, this was the perfect location and accommodations. It was secluded from everything, yet only minutes away from anything we needed. There were several options nearby to visit like Stone Mountain and Pilot Mountain. The Municipal Park in Elkin was perfect for our 22-month-old and 6-year-old granddaughters. It is impossible to describe how accommodating Bard was to us. She and her husband treated us as if we were part of her family and enabled us to enjoy all their animals which was the highlight for our grandkids. Barb took us around on the farm in her golf cart and they are still talking about it. She allowed them to have flowers from her flower field. Anything and everything we requested; they provide for us. Over the years, we have stayed at several short-term rentals, the accommodations here from Barb were by far the best. Yes, there were some short-comings in the cabin since it is over 100-years old when compared to modern accommodations, but I would not recommend any changes. We are already taking about returning here next year.

Anniversary Trip
The property is in a perfect location. We have been twice, once with our two grandchildren and the second time - just us. We loved staying there both times and will be going back again. The property owners are wonderful people and could not be better hosts. If you are looking for a relaxing, wonderful place to stay, this is it. Each morning and evening, you are greeted by the ducks. At sunrise and a little after dinner - great time for fishing or sitting on the porch in the rockers, cooking out under the tree sitting on the picnic table. A true place away from the bustle of city life.

Our stay at Barbara & Chris's cabin was so lovely and we hope to make it an annual trip. The cabin was built in the 1800s and they did a fabulous job setting it up for people to stay. The kitchen had everything we needed, and the fresh eggs and homemade jam were a great touch. The living room was cozy and had a lot of room to spread out. We traveled with just myself and my husband, so we didn't stay in the loft, but it looked perfect for older children (there are stairs, so I would keep our toddlers downstairs). You have a great view of the pond with ducks, and it was so peaceful to sit outside and enjoy breakfast. We walked past their house to see their horses and donkeys. Barbara had great advice for activities in the area, and the nearby hike to Carter falls was exactly what we needed to burn off all the wine, cheese and crackers from our trip! The farm was close enough to downtown Elkin, so we went to the Farmer's market for fresh bread and peanut butter, and made PB&J sandwiches with the homemade jam. There are lots of wineries a short drive away, and one only 5 minutes down the road. Thank you again, Barbara! Pro tips: check in when its light out or you could miss the turn :-) The bathroom is in the main bedroom downstairs, so if you travel with another couple, you should know that they will have to get into the room.

Paradise
This was all we had hoped for and so much more! Sitting on the front porch of the cabin and watching my children fish, canoe, swim, look at tadpoles, go on the zip line, watch the ducks, and listen to the roosters was just heavenly! The cabin was very comfortable! Barbara is one the most wonderful people I’ve met in my whole life, and we enjoyed spending some time with her and her adorable animals (goats, sheep, miniature horses, large horse, hilarious donkey, roaming chickens). Her farm is truly the most scenic piece of property! Food stores and restaurants were close by (10 minutes) and we ate either inside at the table or outside at the picnic table. My kids explored the woods and Barbara told us of a good nearby (less than 10 minutes) hike/waterfall to go to. We hope to go back again! It is just the most peaceful and relaxing place imaginable with the friendliest host ever!!

Cozy cabin
Wish we could have stayed longer. It is just far away enough from town to feel secluded but close enough to enjoy the restaurants and shopping. The owner was very pleasant and helpful. It was cold at night and we really enjoyed the fireplace. (All the wood and kindling were provided ) If we let the fire go out there is central air and heat. We have stayed in other cabins before but this one is really authentic. We enjoyed our stay and would love to visit again again.

Perfect getaway!
The cabin was cozy, clean, well appointed, and host was wonderful! Enjoyed all the animals at the farm, the privacy, and the pond view. Loved the area, and enjoyed hiking on Stone Mountain. Spectacular! Ate at South on Main, breakfast at Breakfast Time, shopped The November Room, and Country Road Emporium, and just relaxed in a beautiful setting! Will go again!

Searching for normalcy
We are essential workers who have been working like crazy since covid began. We were wanting a place to relax and experience some sense of normalcy in these crazy times. We found it in this cabin. The best it gets
Similar to arriving in the Florida Keys upon arrival and the smile of a welcome landowner you can’t help but feel at ease it is Magic on many levels - as you see the horses graze in the distance and the ponies playing next to the car we’ll just say the best time I’ve ever had at one of these sites and I don’t wanna ruin all the surprises for you So if you’re lucky enough get here stay here will not a disappointed!!!!!

Don’t underestimate this cabin experience!
From the moment we arrived, my kids and I felt welcomed by the owner and the surrounding neighbors! You don’t want to underestimate this cabin and farm experience. The property is truly remote and full of surprises. Perfect getaway for families, a couple or even solo...highly recommended! Deserves a higher rating than a “5!”
