Although associated with a casino, we frequently stay at The Prospector because of its affordable rates and high standards of cleanliness and service. We have no issues with this hotel, though we would advise finding other dining options in Ely (though admittedly limited) because the in-house, privately operated Mexican restaurant in The Prospector Hotel is less than responsive to issues that may arise. We experienced it on a night when it was out of rice (how about that - a Mexican restaurant without rice....). Instead of hopping down to the local grocer, they simply served their dishes without rice (just beans!) with no price adjustment. Upon leaving, we attempted to pay with a credit card only to learn that they charge a service fee. Yes, there IS a sign displayed to inform patrons, however it's situated so as to be nearly invisible when walking in to the restaurant. Then, they spring it on you when you attempt to card your charges. We see that as deceptive, if not outright opportunistic. We wish to add that this is NOT the hotel's fault.
