This funky old place was just right for our multigenerational get together in northern New England. Lots of bedrooms and nooks and crannies to get lost in. Pool keeps the young ins entertained. Close to classic swimming spots, ice cream, and an easy and totally rewarding summit of Mt Kearsage. Classic New England summer!
This was our fourth year staying at this incredible property, and once again, it exceeded all our expectations. Every year, our group looks forward to returning, and each time, it feels more like our home away from home.
From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with the same warmth and comfort that we've come to expect. Every corner of this home is designed to provide the perfect blend of relaxation and fun.
Whether it's preparing meals in the spacious kitchen, enjoying games on the three-season room, lounging in the pool, or just lounging on the deck, there's something for everyone. The outdoor spaces are a particular highlight—perfect for early morning coffee or late-night stargazing. We also appreciate how well-equipped the house is with everything we could possibly need during our stay.
The location is ideal for our group. Close enough to enjoy a quick drive yet secluded enough to provide the peace and tranquility we crave. Our group has grown closer with each visit, and this house plays a big part in that. It’s the kind of place where lasting memories are made. We’ve already marked our calendars for next year’s stay, and we can't wait to return.
To the owners, thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us. It’s truly a special place, and we feel lucky to have found it. Here’s to many more years of laughter, relaxation, and friendship in this wonderful retreat.
Until next year!
Charming house with lots of bedrooms. Secluded on a big swath of land. We kept discovering new rooms and storage spaces during our stay. About 35 minutes to Weirs Beach.
We loved the antique decor, grounds and pool. Four generations had a lovely time of connecting for our vacation.

Great stay for large group
Was a great place for my groups annual golf outing, plenty of rooms/beds, great indoor and outdoor congregation space, and plenty of character. Only drawback was some low doorway headers.
Already considering a return trip!

The home on Gile Road was perfect for our family weekend heraway
The property was very comfortable. Lots of character. Cozy in front of the fireplace.
This property easily accommodated our large group for a family get together. The property has several areas (both inside and outside) for the whole family to hang out in, but also has several rooms available for people to escape to do some work or have some private time.
John was a great host and very responsive.

Nice Place to Stay
Great large house with a lot of history. Part of the fun was reading and learning the history of the home and the ownership and genealogy. The home does have some age but nothing that one couldn't easily become accustomed to. I would recommend this home to large gatherings.

Great house, loved the charm
Once i arrived at the house, Aaron (caretaker) greeted me with the keys, a tour of the place, some rules and even gave me a box of golf balls! This house has some serious charm, great cozy space, wonderful pool, and is in the middle of nothing (which was perfect). Everything was as advertised and did not disappoint. I would easily rent this place again!!!!
This home boasted plenty of space inside and out for our group of 16. The fields surrounding the property were great for lawn games and having the pool to cool off in was amazing. Inside we did not feel cramped. During day and evening we could hang out in the sun room and at night we gathered around in the living room.
The house and the stay was amazing. We loved having the pool and the lawn was in great shape for games. We spent a lot of time in it after golf and yard games since it was up around 90 degrees some days we stayed but the ACs saved us at night. The sunroom was a great place for us to all eat and hang out and we loved the uniqueness of the home. We would def go back!
This home fit our family (grandparents, 3 adult children with spouses, 5 grandchildren) perfectly, and allowed us to host the other 20 family members for a day. Good times had by all. Just remember to duck your head when walking through the house!
A group of friends and I have used this property 4 times now, and it is our go to house when we visit near Laconia. It has plenty of bedrooms and beds to accommodate the 9+ adults that we bring. Also, the pool is a great resource for our group.
John and his property manager are great at communicating, and they make check-in simple and any needs that may arise, accommodated. We love the house and can't wait to come back again!
This is our 2nd time staying at the 40 Gile Rd house for our annual Adult Weekend Getaway (Friendcation). After years of searching we have finally found the perfect place to laugh a little more, share in memories we will have never forget and of course eat (and maybe drink :)) way too much. Waiting another 365 days will be hard but we are all counting down the days until we can meet again at our home away from home. Thank you again for a wonderful weekend!!
Great place for experiencing an authentic early American home. Please remove multitude of spiderwebs on main floor, trim high weeds, and air condition first floor as 90+ degree interior is challenging.

Beautiful old Farm House, so much character. Such an awesome place!
This is a gorgeous piece of property with an amazing farm house from the 1800s ( I believe). The decor and character of this home are amazing. This Farm house has clearly been kept well and loved dearly by its famiy for generations. There is plenty of space for large families. There are many rooms with comfortable accommodations. I highly recommend staying here. If you are into old farm houses, history and a peaceful getaway this is the place for you!! I would definitely rent this place again. There so many wonderful things to say about this home.

I LOVE THE GILE ROAD FARMHOUSE!
Gile Road is a very special place. We have stayed there twice and we will definitely return. It is full of history and is incredibly charming and very comfortable. Each time we went with a large group of good friends and had an amazing time. It is quiet and relaxing and also possesses rooms spacious enough for large groups of friends and family to gather and eat meals together. From each window of the home you see amazing vistas and you feel like you are in the country but you are actually quite close to two different towns. I love this farmhouse!
Our family had a great time at this very spacious and private property. The adults and kids swam and splashed in the pool, had lunches and dinners in the sunroom and enjoyed walking around the grounds and playing lawn games. There are ample board games for a rainy evening for both adults and kids. We found the kitchen to be very well stocked, as during the week we were there all but two meals were cooked at the house. The owner was very responsive and easy to get in touch with.
The property was just a great place overall to stay at with a lot of history that comes with it!
Thank you John!!!
We stayed here August 2020 with 10 friends, it was the perfect house for us to chill out for a long weekend. We cooked, drank, swam, and explored all weekend! The pool was wonderful for lounging, relaxing, and a bit of throwing the football around. The room off the pool was AMAZING for having meals, it allowed us all to sit together and be close to the bar! The kitchen (with the extra refrigerator) was prefect for cooking meals. The house had so much history and interesting "secret" spaces. There were plenty of bedrooms and space for everyone. We would absolutely rent this house again!!!
My extended family vacations together for a week each summer and this year stayed at this house in Franklin NH. The house was spacious enough to comfortably allow 10 adults and 5 children to relax, explore, and play. Rooms were clean, appliances well-maintained, and the outdoor grounds are expansive and practically demand exploration! The kids spent hours each day in the pool and playing hide and seek in the house’s nooks and crannies. At night, there’s no city light getting in the way of some great stargazing. The caretakers were consistently helpful and gracious. We were very happy to have stayed here and we thank John and his team for providing us with a memorable venue.
My partner and I got married on Mt. Kearsarge and stayed at the house with friends and family for the weekend. The house accommodated a large group wonderfully with AC in almost all rooms and a nice big bedroom downstairs away from all the others where the one family with a baby could stay. We loved the hearth and old farm implements on display. The patio, fire pit, and pool were amazing with beautiful views and sunsets. Nice updated kitchen with two fridges and a dishwasher. The house is historic but had everything we needed. Our communication with the host started with some confusing moments but he made it right and was very generous. We will remember our stay here always!
Our adult children and daughter in law joined us for the week leading up to Christmas and this couldn't have been a better place for us. We were in our own Covid bubble so having a large house with many wings, rooms, nooks and quiet places for us all to be together and yet have privacy was perfect! When we arrived there must have been 3 feet of snow on the ground and it looked like a Christmas card. We got a tree, strung lights, baked cookies, cooked too much food, tromped in the woods, did some downhill at Ragged Mountain, and just generally settled in for a relaxing family Christmas. John has done a lovely job of preserving the feel of this rambling homestead and yet providing comfy beds with first class linens - we all slept incredibly well. Highly recommend and we hope to be back!
