Just when we were giving up on finding a vacation house that met all our constraints for a trip during Covid-19 and still made us super happy, we came across this one. We were two families of three - each family two adults and a teenage daughter. First of all, the house is adorable. Sunny and cozy at the same time. There were a seemingly infinite number of nooks to read or play games inside and on the porch and patio (and a wonderful selection of books and movies in case we ran out). The kitchen was stocked with everything we could want to help us make our meals, including that rarity: sharp knives. We never actually found the need to use the rec room, but imagine that with more kids or younger kids it could have been a real winner.
Then there was the property. It was so much lovelier than we expected! Those of us who liked to take walks, found many trails and roads to travel. Those who liked being on the water spent many hours in the kayaks and on the floats and even in the canoe. It was a little walk to the clearing down by the river, but the space was so gorgeous that it was worth a little work - perfectly maintained with tall shade trees and lush grass. Our only fail was that we did not bring enough life vests (they have a whole slew of vests but all seemed to be sized Adult small or smaller), but that just inspired more time in the hammock for folks while not on the river.
And the location was excellent. It does take a bit of coaxing to get a car that is lower to the ground down all the gravel roads, but with our higher car, we were within a 20 or 30 minute drive of anything we could want to do (shopping, hiking, vineyards, orchards, even getting our tire repaired when we came out one morning to realize it had gone flat). But in the end, we didn't really want to do anything except enjoy our time right where we were.
It certainly helped that we had the most perfect weather we could have hoped for, but it seems likely that we would have loved our week in any weather situation.
