The property is a historic farmhouse built in two phases in the 19th century, originally a family farm. At the bottom of the valley, where vineyards now grow, there was once a kiln near the Massellone river, now Chianti. Gaiole in Chianti has been a strategic crossroads between Chianti and Upper Valdarno since the Middle Ages, with markets dating back to the 11th century and as a commercial center of the Chianti League since the 14th century.
