Love this hotel. It's welcoming, comfortable, and we really liked our room. Nate met us upon arrival and was very warm & friendly & professional. Everything was as advertised and we highly recommend Hotel Galena. We are planning a return to Galena and the staying at the hotel.

Rooms were gorgeous! Easy walk to Main Street. Nate (the owner) was very accessible. Lots of nice little touches around the room. Fresh towels were brought without asking and left in a darling basket outside of our room. Breakfast was decent with local sold items. Cute outdoor area to sit and unwind.

What's not to like? This property beats the crap out of any chain hotel. Just a delightful place: the manager who greeted us was great, the continental breakfast was great, the building itself is charming and amazing and I hope I can keep coming back here whenever I come to Galena.

This was our 2nd stay with this property, we've loved it each time! The owners are wonderful and personable, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and we love that it's a short walking distance to the main street shopping and dining area.

After booking my nonrefundable room, I got a text that the hotel has no elevator and that our bathroom is across the hall from our room. The owner was smug and seemed very happy to not have to help us up the stairs to the third floor when I told him we could carry our own luggage. Some may appreciate the “quaint charm” of an older building like this, but my mom and I found it to be very rundown, uncomfortable, and inconvenient. We had assumed that the bathroom was across a private hall, but it was a shared hallway with two other rooms. The bed was small and barely fit in the room. We sat on it and quickly said that we would both have rolled right out of it if we stayed there. Nate also told us that if we wanted to change the temperature in the room (and the whole floor), we would have to text him so he could change it from his phone. Additionally, the hotel is described as being “downtown Galena” but it is a 15-minute walk to downtown. My mom and I quickly left and booked a room at the Wyndham five minutes away for 2/3 the cost of the Hotel Galena. The staff at the Wyndham were all friendly and professional and the hotel was beautiful and clean with a bar, spa, gaming room, and pool. I would not recommend Hotel Galena to anyone. I have to believe that the many 4-5 star reviews were written by Nate or his friends. Here is a picture of my 70 year-old mom leaving the hotel 10 minutes after we checked in. I’ve never seen her move so fast as she did running out of there.
My mom couldn’t get out of this place fast enough.

Staying at Hotel Galena was delightful. The rooms have retained the charm of an historic building with all the modern comfort and conveniences you may desire. And the bed was SO comfy. The owner and staff are very friendly, courteous, and make you feel like a welcomed guest. The property is convenient to the Main St. area where all the action is in town. I would choose this property any time visiting Galena. A real gem!

When booked, I did not realize that our two room stay involved a spiral staircase in the room. That was very limiting for 4 ladies in their 60’s and 70’s. Climbing down the stairs in the middle of the night to use the bathroom was a challenge.

The cleanliness of the priperty was outstanding. Their housekeeping services are truly phenomenal! The room was decorated beautifully, the fireplace was so cozy to sit by and the room was spacious for the 2 of us. The size of the bathroom was great with a nice, large jacuzzi tub, separate shower and double vanity! Truly, for us, the only downfall of the hotel was the noise from other rooms. We could hear when another tub was being turned on, voices(not clear enough to actually hear conversations) and movement from above us. We brought a fan with us so this was not an issue throughout the night as that provided enough noise for us. Overall. We havr no true complaints and we would definitely come back!!
