  • We spent yesterday arvo bush-bashing down to the Zig Zag Railway viaducts above Lithgow, NSW and looking around the place for a few hours. In this shot you can see the No. 1 Viaduct on the Top Road track. A little further down is the larger No. 2 Viaduct. And on the Bottom Road (which is the train line near the bottom of this pic) is the No. 3 Viaduct. Comprising rock cuttings, classical sandstone viaducts and tunnels, the Lithgow Zig Zag was, and remains to this day, a magnificent piece of engineering. Construction of this part of the rail system began in 1866 and was completed by the late 1890s. The line was decommissioned in 1910 with the construction of the Ten Tunnels deviation which is still in use today by state rail. Back in the early 1970s, volunteers worked to bring the line back into operation as an iconic tourist railway which ran for decades, bringing with it tourism dollars to the wider Lithgow area. In 2013, a huge bushfire swept through the area and destroyed a lot of the infrastructure and equipment used by the Zig Zag Railway. Since that day work has proceeded to slowly bring the tourist train line back into operation It is hoped it'll be up and running again in the next year or so. Great family get away

We had a great few days at this property. Plenty of things to do that suits all ages and the house is perfectly set up to accommodate families.

What a beautiful place the views

We have never stayed in Hartley before and I wasn’t sure if the the York was too far from shops food takeaway etc .We then found the shops which wasn’t too bad and went to he red rooster which was nice hot fresh .The house was so big and nice we all loved the views plenty to do we didn’t want to leave we all miss it already the space the views and the privacy 10/10 thanks we all enjoyed our break away

Family catch-up.

Accommodation was great. It would have been better if the second television in the pool room was working so the children could have watched a movie at night I understand that water is a problem but the outside around the table and pool is very dirty. Also the broken step caused my elderly partner to fall on the hard surface. Could have been worse but I feel it should be fixed. Overall we had a lovely family get together.

hartley house

property and area was great house was nice and big didn’t look anything like pictures lot of things in and outside of the house needed fixing due too neglect of the host was a nice stay with all of my family but could have been a lot better

Nice family holiday house

The house is beautiful and clean. The pool however has many dead bugs floating. The house is listed as pet friendly but we were not allowed to bring our cat. Other than that everyone was happy with the stay.
