My boyfriend and I stayed at Ocean Key Resort for one night, and it was a very disappointing experience. We booked through Expedia for $197 and expected to pay the resort fee of $73 along with the standard $150 hold. However, when we arrived, we were charged an additional $124 in fees, bringing the total to $274 for just one night. For the price, the value was simply not there.
The room itself had several issues. When we checked in, the air conditioning was not working the room was 82 degrees. We had to go down to the lobby to report it because it was unbearably hot. Thankfully, the issue was eventually resolved, but it set the tone for a frustrating stay. Other maintenance problems were also noticeable, such as a broken toilet paper holder.
On top of that, the resort is filled with unnecessary charges. You are required to pay for valet, but it is not true valet service you park and retrieve your own car while staff only holds the keys. In the room, drinks and bottled water were placed as if complimentary, but they were not being charged $8 for a single bottle of water felt excessive.
Overall, the resort gave the impression of constantly trying to charge guests extra at every turn, instead of focusing on comfort and quality. For the high cost and poor experience, I would not recommend this hotel. There are far better options in Key West.
