Good place to stay

Great vacation, ok rental

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was clean. I was more than happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The neighborhood is nice with the sound side beach, pool, tennis & basketball courts, and boat ramp. However, if you have smaller children who cannot swim , they will need life jackets for the pool as there is not much of it that it not over 4ft deep. The sound side beach and playground was where we spent most of our time and our children loved it. The house amenities are great with lots of board games, outdoor games, water toys, etc. We used the blackstone & fire pit almost every night for dinner and s’mores. There was also plenty of options for sleeping arrangements. The couches were pretty worn and uncomfortable. And overall the home could use a good deep cleaning. The outside decks are chipping/ peeling and need some attention. Overall, we had a good trip and would consider this home again.

Reviewer Comments: We were drawn to this house because of all of the listed amenities which was great, but it didn't seem like a lot of those amenities were ready for the season. The grass could use a cut. The cushions for the outdoor seating were covered in pollen The description listed 2 Wii gaming systems, but we only found 1 but it didn't work. No matter what we clicked on from the main menu the screen would go black and nothing would happen. It would have been great on the rainy day we had during our week. The karaoke machine was also a fun idea, but none of the microphones worked. The description listed 4 kayaks, but there were only 3 and one was too small for us. There were inflatable kayaks but without instructions we couldn't figure out how to inflate them. It seemed like some parts were missing. We had hoped to kayak as a family. And the paddle boat was filled with water, but even if empty it looked like its best days were behind it.Also, the hot water heater couldn't keep up with the 4 of us at the end of the day.The house was a good size for our family. The beds were comfortable and the house was clean. It was a our first trip to OBX and we liked the quiet location. I think if there had been more beach days we would probably like to be closer to the beach, but for this trip it was a good spot.

Family Fun!

A Nice Home Away From Home

A Good Time Was Had By All!

The house was clean and spacious. There was plenty of room for our party of 5 adults and one small child. The kitchen was well stocked with tools to cook. We cooked almost every night. Lots of indoor and outdoor games were available with TV and electronic entertainment in every bed room. The quiet family oriented community includes a large pool and fishing dock. Plenty of restaurants grocery, and entertainment nearby and a 20 min drive to dog friendly Kitty Hawk or Nags Head beaches. I highly recommend this property for vacationing families.

The location affords you some privacy, as does the setup of the decks and patio. The location was a little inconvenient, with Colington Harbour being 10-15 minutes from Routes 12 and 158. The lighting in the bedrooms was strangely dim, though it's possible that I missed something.

So much fun at your back door!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Our family of ten had a blast at this idyllic location. The teens and tweens spent almost every moment on the water in kayaks. Although the paddle boat and one kayak were not in great condition, the remaining crafts were outstanding. The arcade was great, but the Wii was sadly broken. Beware that although the house description says it accommodates ten, the dining room seating barely fits eight or nine (and we are slender people). Eight sleeping spots are in bedrooms; one is the living room couch. But the beds are excellent, and everyone sleeping in a bedroom got terrific sleep. If you are flexible in making things work, this is an awesome location for the money and a delightful house!

Could have been better

Reviewer Comments: When we showed up the yard furniture was dirty and thrown about the place, dirty linens, dirty towels (covered in hair and stains), HVAC filters were filthy, almost all of the windows and doors were foggy from broken seals, the fireplace had condensation in it that was leaking onto the hearth... lots of little things could have been taken care of that just weren't. You can tell the cleaning company doesn't do much other than run the vacuum... we had to clean the bathrooms ourselves when we got there. Location is great but the cleanliness and outside areas could have been better for sure. We didn't even use the outdoor stuff due to the condition they were in... Kind of disappointed considering what we paid to stay here.

Perfect Family Getaway

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We loved our stay at Sound Waves! It was perfect for our multi-generational family getaway. There was plenty of space (and sleeping accommodations) for us all to gather in one house and enjoy our time together. The house was set-up with plenty of extras to make us feel comfortable—from the stocked board game cabinet and Wii system, to the outdoor games and water activities, to the kitchen supplies that allowed us to cook meals together, to the baby gate that made it easy to keep our toddler safe. We also appreciated having a vacuum cleaner on-site for us to clean-up those unavoidable toddler messes :-) The location was perfect for us! It was a quick trip into town for all of the major attractions and shopping. However, the private sound-side beach made it possible for us to easily enjoy beach time at a moment’s notice. This was particularly helpful to us since we, unfortunately, ended up having a lot of stormy weather for the week of our stay. The ocean-side beaches had dangerous riptide warnings for much of the week, and it was hard to predict when the storms would break and sunshine would peek through. Being at Sound Waves meant that we had plenty of indoor entertainment together, as well as covered, weatherproof outdoor spaces. Then, when the weather would break, we could easily grab our supplies and head over to the Colington sound-side beach. We were able to spend time at the water swimming and building sandcastles every day of our vacation. I honestly don’t think that would have been the case if we’d stayed somewhere else. We all enjoyed our trip immensely!

Love this house

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: My husband, myself and our two small dogs, stayed in this house the last week of April 2022. We loved this house!! The way is was laid out, the decorations, the amenities all were so nice! We didn't utilize all of the rooms but definitely could've comfortably fit two small families or one large family easily. The kids room was so cute with the boat beds and the arcade machine. This room also had a Wii gaming system with lots of add on accessories. The view from the back balconies were beautiful! The upstairs living area had decent amount of space and the owners definitely make it fun to hang out at home. They have led lights in the kitchen and lamps and also had a really nice stereo/speaker sound system. The master bedroom was super comfortable too. The ceiling fans were huge and very unique, loved them! We also really appreciated the fact that they had nice quality room darkening curtains in the main living area and bedrooms. Made the nights very comfortable and was able to sleep in without the sun waking us up. Lots of forms of entertainment in the basement too. From corn hole, to kayaks, bikes, yard games to a popcorn machine. There is a full sized refrigerator down here as well. There is also a really cute outside bar area with a mini fridge, great lighting and an option for curtains for privacy or to block out the weather. The house is in a gated community which was nice. It felt like a real home versus just a rental. We didn't spend any time at the community beach this time but we did utilize the dog park which is right beside the community beach and watched amazing sunsets. This dog park beach and pool were a short walk from this house. Over all loved this house, the location and the amenities. The only downside we had was we couldn't get the outside fire pit to work but that could've been user error. Otherwise couldn't complain about a thing. Would definitely stay here again!!

OBX vacation rental

Accommodations were good. Wish the kayaks and paddle boat could have been easier to get in and out of the canal off the dock. We didn't even try.

Sound Waves and Roaches

I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Do not recommend. Arrived Sunday to a house that was 80 degrees inside. The air conditioning on the top floor - living room/kitchen area was not working. We called and beach realty sent a guy out who clearly knows nothing about air conditioning. He hooked up a portable air conditioner but failed to place the exhaust on. Sure enough we called beach reality again and him come back out to install it. Later that evening we returned to the house to find a live cockroach running across our bedroom floor. We also found another one dead on the floor inside the upstairs bedroom. We again called beach reality and they said they would be in contact with the owner. We were told that they were sending someone out to spray ( this never happened and nobody came out to spray for the whole duration of our trip ). We were also told that the owner scheduled an air conditioner tech to come out between 10-12 on Wednesday. We waited around for the tech to come and sure enough he was a no show so we called and informed beach reality. We just would not recommend considering the roaches and terrible customer service / air conditioning issues.

Fabulous family time

Sound Waves was a great “home base” for our family adventure. Everyone had enough space, we were able to bunk our big family comfortably. The kayaks were a big hit for adventurous members. Kids loved the sound-side beach. Enjoyed having movie nights.

Great Vacation House

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The house is very well-suited for a large family. Plenty of room to spread out and lots great outdoor space. The kitchen is VERY well equipped with good quality pots, pans & knives (things that usually are not so good in rentals). We did not seem to have access to the corn-hole set or some of the other outdoor toys that were described but that ended up being okay since it rained a few days and we had brought our boat along as well. For anyone who wants to bring a small ski boat or other power boat, there really is not enough room to dock on this home's property completely. We asked the renters next door and our boat was about 6 ft. on the sea wall in front of that home as well. Didn't seem to be a problem and it wasn't blocking anyone's access to the canal. We were able to get off of the boat onto our rental so we didn't need to walk on anyone else's yard. The canal is deep enough for an I/O motor on an 18 1/2 ft. Sea Ray and the launch is very convenient to the home. The home was pretty clean but we did find things like a bowl with a spoon under a chair and someone's sock under a bed :-). We did notice ants - a lot of them -- toward the end of our stay and we had not left any food out or anything so no idea where they came from. We notified the rental mgmt. company. All in all, this is a great home for the price and I would definitely recommend it.

Cute Location

My friends and I stayed here for a long weekend and loved it. The house was clean and had just enough room for us (7 adults and 2 kids). There are a lot of stairs so beware, you'll definitely get a workout while staying here. ;) The view over the canal is nice and its a relaxing quiet neighborhood. There is a guard shack you drive through when entering the community. That wasn't mentioned in any of the information we received prior to arrival but it didn't cause any issues for us. We all enjoyed our stay, for a waterfront, non beachfront home, it was a great spot!

Well-equipped home

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This home has everything we needed for a relaxing getaway with our kids and grandkids. We were happy to have kayaks, Keurig coffee maker, a Portacrib and baby gate! Getting to the public access beach was a breeze (about a 6 minute drive straight out Colington Road to the main Lifeguard station access!)
