“Upon entering the room I smelled a strong smell of urine. I immediately started looking for another hotel online, but they were all booked up. My husband suggested getting air freshener but that would just cover up the filth. I walked to the gas station and got a bottle of 409 and paper towels. I cleaned the floor by the toilet and my towel came up BLACK. I proceeded to clean the entire floor and it apparently hadn’t been properly cleaned in a while. The smell improved but not much. “First off, check-in was weird. The owner told us a power outage a few days ago wiped out his key card machine, so he couldn't give us keys because replacement was still on order, that we'd have to just find him and he'd let us in to our room. Don't really understand how temporarily losing power destroys a machine like that, I hope its legitimately short term but just started off the experience creepy wondering if he's one of those nosy micromanaging owners who wants to spy on everyone etc. The……

“The room was clean and tidy, although the facilities were a bit dated. The location is excellent—it's very close to Hearst Castle and the Elephant Seal viewing area. The hotel is right across from the ocean, which was a nice bonus. Overall, a good experience.”
