People describe the cabins, like a tree house above the river.
A large deck overlooking the river leads into a living room, with a flat screen t.v.
The loft area is a great hangout for the kids, I have even had adults say how much they enjoyed camping out in the loft.
Then you have the small.but adequate kitchen.
Bathroom to the right, with a shower and sink.
Then you are in the large Queen bedroom with a fireplace, and romantically decorated.
Outside you have a picnic table, grill and a nice fire pit. camp chairs are provided.
A nice concrete patio is where you will find a 6-person hot tub,
For fun on the property, there are corn hole boards, kayaks and a canoe to enjoy the river,
Beautiful Log Cabins built right on the river bank.7.5 private acres ,a 34 acre island for fishing, and private boat launch. This cabin offers mountain views as well as river frontage. Swim, canoe, fish or just relax in the Hot Tub.
They are secluded yet only 3 miles from Luray Caverns, Zoo and Country Club;only 10 miles from George Washington National Forest, New Market, Shenandoah National Park, and Shenandoah River Outfitters. Massanutten and Bryce Ski Resorts are within 35 miles.

Relax vacations

We love to hear the river next to the cabin, we had a campfire, grill outside and enjoyed the hot too after a nice hike on the many trains around the area.

Beautiful, quite get away

We had so much fun! Celebrated my birthday this weekend just relaxing and walking down the river and town. The cabin was clean and we found So many cute shops near by. The hot tub and fire pit were very relaxing at the end of the day too!

Great Cabin

The cabin is very nicely built and super cute. One sleeping area is a fun loft that you do have to climb up to on very sturdy and well-made ladder. The cabin is right on the water and the views are lovely. Hot tub is very nice and relaxing. We would definitely stay here again.

Nice riverfront property

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay here. The views were beautiful and we loved the hot tub. Seems like a great place for families with kids too, as there were lots of activities available and a really cool loft above the living room. Easy to find and smooth check-in. The place itself was pretty small and simple but it was exactly what we needed for our weekend exploring Shenandoah National Park, Luray Caverns, and other local attractions.

Excellent getaway

The cabin was very clean and inviting. It was just what we wanted for our little getaway. The owners were very quick to respond to any questions I had. The hot tub was perfect on cold November evenings. My 10 year old son thought that hanging out and sleeping in the loft was the coolest thing ever! We will definitely be back!

Just the ticket

Our stay at one of the Gander island cabins was a nice balance of the quietness yet near to many amenities. Dave was very cordial when we met. My social worker wife recovered from an illness early on as she caught up on notes. An avid angler, I enjoyed catching several smallies including a trophy size beauty. We hiked and canoed the gorgeous Shenandoah River, were awed by Luray Caverns and took a challenging 5 mile hike. We will recommend you to our friends and family. Best regards, Tom and Sylvia

Cabin is nice BUT bed is horrible!

The cabin itself is nice but we left a day early cuz the master bed was Soo bad! The slightest movement would have the noisest spring sounds. Hills and valleys in the mattress. 10 years past its replacement date. Really couldn't sleep and went home early because of this. I can't believe anyone left good reviews for comfort of the mattress. Also the shower is so small and the lights kept going over or flickering like crazy. The rest of the cabin was nice and clean.

A place to sleep

Pros to our stay, we enjoyed the hot tub, the beds were comfortable, our son loved the loft! We had to everything in the loft (play games, watch tv), the area was beautiful, you are right next to the river and very close to several restaurants in down town Luray. Cons, I did not plan to prepare any meals here but if I had it would have been difficult to do in such a small space so plan accordingly. The biggest was that hot water smelled like sulfur to the point it was not tolerable to use so we only had cold water. We spoke with the owner and she was super nice but the issue was not resolved and we spent the day snow tubing so a warm shower after a long day in the snow would have been nice. I feel like when renting a home hot water should be a give.

Perfection from all sides

Thoughtfully well-constructed, remote in all the right ways (but still accessible with a family style sedan), clean, quiet, and with a ton of character—we enjoyed the Goose cabin immensely. HUGE plus for items like WIFI and an absolutely cozy couch. Excellently maintained grounds and lawns. A short drive to MANY of the Shenandoah trails and Skyline drive. The location feels ‘super remote’ yet is only a few minutes from a grocery store if you find yourself needing anything. While there is no conventional oven in the Goose cabin, the kitchen features two electric burners (similar to what You’d find at extended stay hotels), and there is a charcoal camp grill and fire ring outside so you can grill the way nature intends. There’s also a microwave we used to reheat some travel meals my partner made ahead of time. It was great to wake up to coffee on day one to view a couple of anglers down in the river casting and catching. When the weather turned poor, the roof of the cabin extends over where the two rocking chairs are so you can sit outside sipping more coffee and enjoying the sound of the rain on the trees.Few things feel like mornings in the Shenandoahs…and even fewer I’d think while being in the Shenandoah River. This cabin gives you both. —we needed a break from work and the world…and Gander’s Island delivered. Nicely done!
