「The property is excellent; the facilities are excellent BUT some of the staff need training in hospitality especially for an exceptional property in a historic area. I have been twice in the last 3 weeks due to work, and it was the same both times. Both times, I had multiple experiences at the front desk where staff didn't even look up from what they were doing and said, "Can I help you?" with exasperated facial expressions that appeared as if I was an annoyance or chore. 「Ironclad was a wonderful place right in Fredericksburg, close to the town and restaurants. Our room was on the 2nd floor, no elevators, but it was okay. Sadly, the Bourbon room was closed, but the staff was ice enough to let us go down and look at the room. Very cool, would stay again!」

「Locating the hotel was a problem. Better signage would help. Sitting in the adjacent parking lot, we saw several illuminated signs, but nothing indicating the hotel was around the corner. Also, reviews mentioned available sandwiches in “The Market”, which turned out to be an empty refrigerator cooler when we arrived at 9:15 PM. The best feature of our stay was a comfortable bed for a good night’s sleep.」

「Our stay was decent overall. My only real complaints were the TV not working in our original room, which required us to change rooms, and later having our room key unexpectedly stop working. The staff was very apologetic throughout and even upgraded us to a suite, which we truly appreciated. The following day, after being out all day and returning with our hands full, our room key no longer worked. A staff member promptly came upstairs and provided us with a new set. Again, this wasn’t the fault...

The two issues I had were that the shower curtain allowed water to cover the bathroom floor outside of the shower and the keyless entrance to the room didn't work very well. I had to try the keyless entrance to the room several times to open the door every time I wanted to enter the room. Also having to drive to the location where the continental breakfast and pool were is very inconvenient.」
