  • My dad's friend owns a really cool karting circuit in Pageas, a few kilometres from Chalus where I grew up in France. They are both hunters. I know this is not everyone's cup of tea, but a lot of people from that generation in rural France do like hunting, fishing, fetching mushrooms. There are woodlands all around the karting circuit. My dad and his friend have built some platforms in the trees, and from mid-October to mid-November they go there every morning to shoot migrating birds. Those ones are some sort of wood pigeons going from Eastern Europe / Russia to North Africa. I did my own shooting that morning... with my camera! The sunrise was spectacular with some nice pink colours and mist in the valley.

Lovely gîte

Gorgeous gîte with everything we needed. Lovely outdoor space too for relaxing and eating outside. We enjoyed the pool too. Our hostess was lovely and helped to make our stay special.

Lovely place to stay

We had a wonderful stay at the property which was very clean, warm, comfortable and has a lovely, private swimming pool. It is a great place to explore the nearby towns such as Cognac, Limoges, Angouleme and many interesting small villages. Christine was extremely kind and helpful and we have no hesitation in recommending it if you are considering a holiday in this area.

Perfect!

This is a lovely gite, perfect for a relaxing holiday and surrounded by beautiful countryside. Christine is an excellent host- and a master of the perfect tiramisu!! Wish we could have stayed longer than a week.

Relaxing holiday

A wonderful relaxing 2 weeks in beautiful surroundings. The gite was very clean, well equipped and furnished to a high standard. Christine the host was very friendly and on hand if required even made us home baked treats. It is worth booking one of the therapy massages, one of the best I've ever had. We will definitely be staying again.

Lovely gite

The gite was immaculate and very clean. Everything you could need was there but Christine said that anything we needed to just say and she would try to get it (never needed to ask for anything). Christine is a fabulous host even going as far as leaving us baked goods and fresh tomatoes and herbs from her garden. Thank you Christine for a fantastic stay at your gite.

Holiday at Le Gite de Lou

We spent an enjoyable week at this lovely gite which is an ideal place if you are looking for a peaceful and tranquil holiday. Christine was the perfect host and made sure we were made welcome in this beautifully presented gite. The pool was cleaned every day and we really appreciated swimming as we had very hot weather for most of our stay. We spent many an evening outside on the patio enjoying watching the sun go down. We would highly recommend this lovely gite for a quiet relaxing holiday and hope to return in the future.

Gite du Lou exceeded our expectations in every way and more than lived up to the photos and description of the property. Christine and David were the perfect hosts. Informative, friendly and gracious. Christine offers a range of massages and I'd definitely recommend this for a relaxing experience. We have just arrived home from the most wonderful holiday! We can only describe the gite as paradise. We were so grateful for the beautiful pool to cool off in. Gite de Lou looks even better in real life, very nice and well equipped. Very spacious private garden and a lovely spotless pool. Christine was very friendly and welcoming, and spoiled us with lovely tasty tiramisu and other desserts. We would highly recommend the gite which is set in a quiet rural area, and gives a taste of the real France.

2nd stay at Gite de Lou

A 2nd holiday with Christine and David at the beautiful le gite de lou. This for us is the perfect home from home with every convenience catered for. The swimming pool is always clean and well presented as are the gite and gardens. The hosts Christine & David are approachable and attentive without being intrusive. You really couldn't find a better place to stay.

Alan and Maggie excellent host made our stay fun and pleasurable, gite very well equipt with everything you need for a holiday! Maggie makes a mean home made quiche! Nice swimming in the pool, we had the pool all to ourselves! Pure luxury, would highly recommend!

Simply put, the best gite we have ever stayed in. Everything one could ask for - comfort, private spaces and exclusive use of a fine swimming pool. Friendly but non-intrusive hosts on hand with good local knowledge. Highly recommended and we would certainly want to return.

Summer holiday

We were looking for somewhere to relax after a stressful year this ticked the box and we could not of picked a better place to stay. Christine the host was amazing and so helpful the gite had everything we needed the was lavender all around it which helped us to relax. The swimming pool was lovely to cool off in after a day of sightseeing. We will definitely be looking to come back and stay again.

Beautiful Gite

We have stayed in many places in South West France over the years and this was by far the best. Immaculately clean with a heated private pool. The owners Christine and David were extremely friendly and helpful and on hand if we needed anything, but respected privacy. A very quite beautiful location, we honestly couldn’t have asked for more, we will return.

The gite was perfect. A very high standard of accommodation throughout in a beautiful and peaceful setting. The pool was a delight and ideal for relaxation. The local area was lovely, with all that was needed and not far from Angouleme for an interesting visit. Alan and Maggie were very helpful and lovely to chat to.

A hidden delight

A real 'Get Away From It All' well appointed gite situated in a delightful hamlet with welcoming, knowledgeable & helpful hosts. The pool is a real plus set in a gorgeous garden, hard to drag ourselves away to explore the local area but we did manage it venturing into La Rochefoucald and Angouleme, both worth visiting. There are Chateaus a many to explore in the local area. We can highly recommend this gem situated in the heart of the Charente.
