Dr. Lucy Hobbs the first woman to graduate dental college in the world had her dental office in this building from 1862-1865! The building is on the National Registry of Historic Places and offers a one of a kind experience you can’t find anywhere else! Just a “stones” throw from the river you will enjoy the best view of the Mississippi in all of McGregor. Many famous people have frequented the American House including former President Jimmy Carter and the legendary Mark Twain back when he was doing a speech in the area. Please note: This is a train town and we are located in close proximity to the tracks. Train noise should be expected.
