Our stay overall was very accommodating to our guests. Sleeping arrangements work well for a group of 10! Very Nice that sheets and towels are provided! The fire pit had plenty of cut wood provided also a nice bonus! Departure rules are very simple! The location is very nice! It’s very secluded like advertised. It Centers to a lot of attractions! The house itself needs lots of TLC. Sliding doors are extremely hard to open/close. The toilets need updating. The kitchen kettles need updating badly. The regular coffee pot leaks from somewhere but not every brew. Also some kind of regular tv would be an added bonus! We also heard critters in the walls/ceilings each nite! Would rent again if above items are addressed.

Our 4th of July Get Away
The property is perfect for our family to stay. It is very clean and has every accommodation to fit our needs. The house has everything you would need to cook, bake and grill. Two seperate living room spots for family time. We enjoyed lots of Puzzles, Ladder ball and Cornhole. Recommended for a nice getaway. Kim is very repsonsive and helpful for any questions you may have. Thank you for allowing us to visit your home for 1 week.

Scenic woodland area
Beautiful views, close to nature, rustic cabin with large living space. We saw deer our first day come walking right around the house. The location is near a lot of local adventures, bike riding the trails at PA Grand Canyon and horse back rides in the mountains. We grilled steaks and burgers and enjoyed the supply of games.

Listing doesn't do it justice
The cabin is great! The kitchen is bigger than it seems as well as the carpeted area. It comfortably fit all 12 of us with room to cook, eat, and play board games. They provided wood and splitting axes for the fire pit as well as a good quality gas grill. Would 100% recommend.

Last minute escape
After setting aside time with friends, and unfortunate emergency required a quick change of plans. Luckily this incredible property was available for the exact titwe needed. Having been lucky enough to have stayed at the Black Bear Lodge on a previous occasion I knew it would be perfect. And as usual the Black Bear Lodge did not disappoint. From the fantastic host, to the incredible lodge and property it delivered what we needed, an escape from life for a few days. The seclusion the lodge offers while being close to Wellsboro and the canyon is a major plus. Could not recommend more highly. The improvements made since our previous we fantastic. Have fun, relax and enjoy your stay.

Had a fun stay!!!
We loved staying here while we were visiting family in Wellsboro! The house had enough space for my children to spread out and play. It rained the whole time we were there so we didn't get to enjoy the fire pit or deck but still had a great stay!

Great Weekend!

Our family get away
We had an amazing time at Bear Lodge. The house was so spacious and well equipped with everything that you may need for your get away. Kim was very responsive and helpful to my messages. There was so much to do at the lodge and the kids loved the play area. Tons of puzzles and games to play, table tennis and even a pool table. Lots of fire wood for a nice fire in the fire pit at night. Beds when very comfortable. Very secluded which we loved but still close enough to the grocery store, beer and liqour store that was only 15 mins away. There is a close family dollar and convient store less then 3 minutes down the road.

Thanksgiving Getaway
We had a wonderful time at the Black bear lodge it was a perfect location for our familys Thanksgiving getaway in a secluded area! The cabin was great and had just about everything we needed! We loved the game room, fire ring, board games and the wood stoves! It had such a great comfy feel and our dogs had a blast! The only thing I would recommend is maybe labeling the light switches and having outdoor lights. Alot of the light switches didn't work or we couldn't figure out which what to where and we had no outdoor lights for when it got dark other than that everything was great and we will definitely book again! Happy Thanksgiving!

Huge and secluded
This lodge was great! It is so spacious and very secluded. My kids loved the toys and it was so convenient to have a pack n play, sheets and towels provided. We did day trips to Watkins Glen and the PA Grand Canyon. I saw 2 baby bears from the window. My kids also loved finding crayfish in the creek near the house. Thanks for a great stay!

Wonderful Setting needs someTLC
This house is wonderfully large and in a peaceful setting. The dust and spiderwebs need attending and the dishwasher was taped off and marked not working. There were several water leaks (in two bathrooms and under the sink in the kitchen), and the ceiling in the main living area was dripping some black oily, liquid that we don't even want to know the origins of. Though the house is at the edge of a wooded area, it would be a good idea to bomb it to reduce the number of spiders inside. They were everywhere. The game room is lacking. Even though there is a pool table, it is ripped and none of the cues had tips on them. The ping pong table is well worn and all of the paddles have the pads shredded on them. The air hockey table is concave and the surface is way past it's prime, and there were only two darts for the dart board. While these may seem like little things, for all of them to be a problem during a one week rental took away from the fact that we had certain expectations and paid for a vacation rental with certain amenities that were not available or up to par. This property could be amazing with a bit of TLC.

Wonderfully Relaxing Trip
We had a wonderful time. The location and layout of the house is great. The area is very quiet. Only the sounds of nature can be heard. We saw wildlife most everyday. Didn't see any bears but did see signs of their presence. We saw deer most every day. We had our 2 Labs with us and they loved their walks every day. The house is spacious and Kim was very responsive when I had questions. As stated in some of the other reviews the house could use some updates but all in all it is a great place to stay.

July 4th weekend
This is an excellent place to stay if you have large groups. It was clean and had everything you needed from cookware to towels and bedding. The lodge had plenty of space. My group had 11 people and we all were comfortable. There’s plenty of games and things to do there on a rainy day. We played pong, air hockey, and pool. There is also plenty of board games in the family room. Some of the place is a little dated but everything was clean and in proper working order. We had a fire one night and it was perfect with the Adirondack chairs. Plenty of fire wood available. I noticed in a previous review that the fire ring area is hard to walk on because of the gravel under your feet. That’s simply not true unless you have an issue walking on an unpaved surface. It’s a great place to get away from all the hustle and bustle of a busy life. Secluded enough away from the road. We seen plenty of deer and a sow bear with cubs during our stay. The front deck has an extraordinary view of the PA wilds. Kim was a great host extremely friendly and willing to accommodate if there were ever any issues during our stay. I look forward to booking this place again in the future. 5 stars all around.

Expected more for the price
The home is huge, with plenty of room to move about inside. There are 3 bathrooms, one on each floor (meaning one is in the basement/garage) however there was no extra toilet paper to be found. The sheets were clean and there were plenty of clean towels, but the entire place is in need of a good cleaning, inside and out. Not happy about spending a very large "cleaning fee" for a place that hasn't seen a deep clean in quite a while. The garage door opener is busted, the front door to the deck needs a new knob, the stove top only half works, etc. There is no central air, 2 large very noisy window units keep the main rooms cool, but not the bedrooms - you have to leave the door open to get any air. The window in one bedroom won't close. This place is in need of some real TLC. Not to say we didn't enjoy our stay, we did, just expected more for the hefty price tag. We saw lots of different birds, deer, turkey with chicks, a porcupine and a bear! The new fire pit is nice, and there was plenty of wood, but it is very difficult to walk around on the gravel - it is on top of a weed barrier which makes the whole thing kind of shift around under your feet. The patio downstairs was a mess - totes of junk, snow shovels, propane tanks and other junk taking up a lot of the already small space. It rained one night and we wanted to sit out there so we cleaned it up ourselves. The place has it's good points, and a good location, but generally disappointed for the price we paid.

Hi Donna, First, thank you for the positive remarks about your stay with us. At over 3200 square feet, this home has a very spacious feel. One of the most rewarding things we have experienced with renting has been to see multiple generations of families gather and reconnect. One of the downsides is that it can be hard to keep up with “deep cleaning” as you described, but we will be looking into some of the areas described in your comment. This home was built in the late 80’s, and we recognize that it has a few features that could use some updating. The stovetop has two burners. Originally, there was a grill on the left. After an accidental grease fire by one of our guests, we disconnected that feature. We provide a Weber grill and a Green Egg, as well as an electric fry pan and slow cooker as alternatives. The garage doors and windows are also showing wear from their age, but they do function manually. The small amount of profit that we bring in each year is always reinvested in the home. We try to put it in areas that will provide the most comfort and enjoyment for our guests. This year, one of those areas was the fire pit and Adirondack chairs. We are uncertain why the weed barrier may be making the ground “shift” as you described, but we will be looking into that as well. We have taken great care to ensure that we have been honest in our description and depiction of our home on the site, and we absolutely encourage any of our guests to notify us immediately if there are any discrepancies. We will do everything we can to make things right. We are happy that you were able to experience the stunning beauty of the natural surroundings and the animals that surround our home Donna. One of our recent guests commented that we “have been so blessed.” We do feel blessed to be able to share this home and experience with others. Many blessings to you Donna, Kim

Wonderful, relaxing family vacation at the PA Grand Canyon
Our whole family (my husband, myself, our 2 elderly mothers and our 3 adult kids along with their spouses stayed at the beautiful Black Bear Lodge for 6 days and 5 nights. We absolutely loved it here! We all had room to spread out but yet come together for family meals around the big dining room table. We enjoyed hiking, kayaking, fishing, playing ping pong and pool in the downstairs game room, and lots of quality family time together. Many wonderful memories were made at the Black Bear Lodge and the PA Grand Canyon! We loved taking an evening stroll through Wellsboro to enjoy a meal at the Diner and homemade Ice Cream at the Main Street Creamery. This was our 1st trip here and we will definitely be back! Hands down, it was better than any beach vacation we have taken throughout the years....and that says a lot because I love the beach!

A Very Relaxing Vacation
Our assessment is exactly as almost every other assessment reads. We had a Wonderfully Relaxing Vacation with our Daughter & her Husband, our 3 Adult Granddaughters with 1 Grandson-in-law, and our 4 Great-Granddaughters. Plenty of room, a Nice Play Area for the children, a Great Porch for Early Morning and Late Night Chit-Chat, and a Fire Pit for Smores & Marshmallows. What more do you need? If you're the type of person that finds fault in everything, you're sure to find things to complain about here. But if you're looking for a Nice Family get-away that will give you an Immense amount of Relaxing Family Time - THIS IS IT!

We enjoyed our stay here. It’s so quiet and relaxing. We didn’t see a bear, but we saw deer everywhere. They were on the driveway. We saw signs of the bear and heard him (we think) but that was all. There is wifi here but cell phones don’t work off it. We didn’t mind that. There’s a gas station and dollar general in just a short drive. The place is huge!! Plenty of room for everyone. Huge garage. It was a little hot on the hotter days and the switches in this place could’ve drove me mad. I was thankful the owners were there to give me a quick tour in the beginning. I was there a little early for check in. The owners were very accommodating and helpful with all our needs. They responded quickly to all my texts. They granted us access to a pond close by. Very pretty area. My only knock is that it could use some updating and it wasn’t spotless. I’m very picky btw. Overall everything was great. I’d stay there again if I’m in that area.

Fantastic Spot to enjoy the Canyon
This is a fantastic place to stay if you're coming to enjoy the grand canyon and surrounding area. The location is completely ideal. 10 minute drive from Ansonia (Pine creek Outfitters, ending spot for kayaking the Upper Pine Creek, starting point for kayaking Grand Canyon, or biking the rail trail). 15 minutes from downtown Wellsboro. Secluded and safe. Very spacious home with 2 living areas. Plenty of beds and places for sleeping bags. Not a terribly big yard, but enough to let out a dog, throw frisbee, and have a campfire. The games downstairs are a blast- Billiards and Ping Pong. Room in the garage for 2 cars and trailers with plenty of room for outdoor gear and outting preperation.

Like a Hallmark Christmas Movie
Had a Wonderful Christmas Holiday. We joked that the location, and house reminded us of a Holiday Christmas Movie. House was lovely and we brought our own Christmas tree and decorations yo make this Holiday special for our family, which included our Mom, 3 kids, and Grand children. Made our Holiday in this crazy times so nice and Wonderful. We had a few issues that the renter was right in and heloed us fix immediately. We would definitely come and stay again if we could. Remote and Intoxicating; Nature's Finest
Black Bear Lodge is a large, spacious structure—as open to morning light as it is to the absolute surrounding nighttime darkness we experienced under a late autumn new moon. We awoke each morning the week we stayed here to views of the nearby mountains across the valley from up in the loft. One side of the lodge is a one story living/dining/kitchen area, whilst the other is a two plus story ski-lodge style affair; an A-frame with multiple massive windows and another living room area w/big screen television. Under the lodge is a three part, massive garage with another full bathroom and game room in the back. We stayed here with several family members—all of whom had their own comfortable sleeping accommodations. It was wonderful to be able to have at least 4-6 family members cooking in the kitchen at the same time. During our time at the Black Bear we celebrated a birthday, hiked the surrounding mountain(s) on the property, fished in the pond belonging to the owner's father, visited the PA grand canyon, took in the local historical and tourist attractions, and were snowed in by a "storm of the century". The lodge owner, Kim was right there "with us"—always available by text to answer our questions and see to our needs. When it became clear we were about to be snowed in by the blizzard, which ended up dumping two plus feet of snow on the lodge, Kim offered us another night so we could travel safely post storm. In fact, her father even came around with his tractor and opened up the long dirt driveway back to a main surface road so we could run out to the store after a couple days snowed in. To sum it all up . . . Kim and her family are kind, attentive hosts; people willing to go out of their way to accommodate their guests and Black Bear Lodge is the perfect place to get away from it all and get back to primordial nature—which surrounds the place in many forms. As for places to purchase food and supplies in the immediate area, there are several within a few miles, including a Dollar General and two convenience stores which also sell takeout. There's even a fishing tackle store right up route 287. Our only caveat for others considering a stay at Black Bear Lodge would be: come prepared to be surrounded by remote nature and very dark nights.

Perfect Mountain Getaway
Planed a family trip to meet in the middle between Youngstown, OH and Philadelphia. Super remote spot that was exactly what we were looking for. Come stocked as there’s not much around for supplies, but Wellsboro is about a 15 min drive and you can find what you need. Only about a 40 min drive to the Gorge! Wish there was more firewood available but we made due pulling some fallen branches out of the woods, and the host brought us some more after we requested. Great getaway with amazing views right off the deck, spacious rooms, kitchen utensils were well stocked, and we had a great time. Highly recommend!

Great location , gorgeous and roomy house
Comfortable beds and lots of room to spread out. It was nice to have a kitchen with room to cook in and most of the cooking tools we needed. We had a wonderful time and would love to stay there again. The only struggle we had was with the light switches not being labeled, and since almost all the lamps were unplugged, it took us awhile to figure out how to get lights on when it got dark.

Stress relief
During these uncertain times, stress is at an all time high. So why not get the family together and head out to a quiet, remote (but handy) mountain lodge. The Bear Lodge in Tioga county, is an unbelievable getaway place that has everything you need. Scenic views, from both the deck and the lodge, room to sleep 12, and includes a rec room if the weather is a bit rainy. The Bear Lodge has the remedy for getting rid of the stress and will allow you to recharge those batteries for the days ahead.

Great house for a quiet get-away!
We enjoyed our stay very much at the Black Bear Lodge - it was a great place to get away, and just relax. Very convenient to hiking and biking at Pine Creek Gorge. House was very large (for 2 couples), and owner was very responsive to questions. One suggestion for the owner - there are a lot of light switches in the house - it might be nice if they were better labeled, so it's clear what turns on what. Also, the week we went it was very hot - the window unit cools the main areas, but not the bedrooms on the main level. Any stand alone cooling unit (like the one in the loft) would have been very welcome.

Family Getaway
We were in town for a wedding in Elkland and to visit family in the Borden/Woodhull Ny area. This was the perfect place. Not too far to travel for visits and sorry and secluded for much needed peace and relaxation. We loved the layout and amenities the house had to offer. My boys really enjoyed the games downstairs. Christmas here would be amazing!

Family friendly!
Great place for our young family to stay for a weekend away. The lodge was spacious and more than adequate for our needs. The included linens were a huge plus!

Was great cabin. Needs some tlc. Screen door and window in o,e bedroom. Grand kids had a blast.
Easy to rent. Worked well as I am not computer savy. Will use Vbro again to rent cabin again next July. Thank you.

Enjoyable weekend
The location is excellent (secluded and minimal traffic noise). The cabin is a little dated but has a nice open layout. It could use a little more seating in the living room areas and it was somewhat dirty (cobwebs and dust in some corners and on light fixtures) but the kitchen and bathrooms were clean. Half of the basement is a nice size garage that u can pull 2 vehicles into if u want to get them out of the weather or use for an activities area if it is rainy outside and the other half is a game room. There is a fire ring for campfires (which we used every evening we were there) and a lp grill and a green egg charcoal grill which we made use of aswell. The owners were very helpful and flexible with the check out time. Overall it is a nice cabin for a big group of people and we would definitely use this cabin again.

Quiet Sanctuary
The pictures online do not do this property justice. Very peaceful location if you are looking to go off the grid for some rest and relaxation. This property is perfect for larger groups. We had 9 adults in our group and had plenty of room for everyone.
