Soul cleansing
Coming from the city where there is so much noise pollution, dirty streets, crime, traffic, etc. that weighs heavily on the soul, a plce like this was extremely cleansing. We loved it. This placed offered an incredible view that was peaceful and serene. No traffic and incredibly friendly locals. Deer were abundant and added to the ambiance. The evening stars were so bright you felt like you could teach up and grab one. We loved it so much we are actively looking for our own piece of paradise. Thank you!

Great getaway for relaxation
It was very quiet and relaxing. There were about 15-20 steps to get to the cabin, so it is not handicap accessible. The driveway was narrow and steep. The inside was very clean and cozy for a weekend getaway. We loved grilling out all weekend with our lines in the water. Fishing was not terrible. We caught a lot of bluegill and sunfish. Saw several baby large mouth but they werent interested in any of the bait we had. Nothing was active for nighttime fishing. Overall, i highly recommend for any couple that is wanting to do a small getaway for relaxation and rest

First, the host, Jessica was stellar on all fronts. Had a problem with the cooktop and Jessica immediately helped us out. She went above and beyond to make sure our trip was enjoyable, which it was. A+++ to Jessica. We will return when funds permit! Everything we had hoped for!

Living the dream
This place was great. My fiancé and I stayed for the weekend and this little place was perfect. It has everything you need and the double burner hot pot works great. We spent all of our time on the huge deck soaking up the sun fishing and grilling. We caught a ton of fish right off the deck. 10 out of 10 would absolutely recommend staying here we can’t wait to book our next getaway here.

Beautiful location, nice cove! Well stocked kitchen-if you are a big coffee drinker take your own cups though-the ones in house are very small! Murphy bed was very comfortable! My biggest suggestion would be to delete the information listed that includes ice machine on the dock. I was thankful that I did check on that before hand, so that we were prepared. While it is a great selling point, it does no good to advertise a product that isn't available. Enjoyed it all, but the fishing was sllloooooowwwwwwww.

Great little spot
This is a great studio property with a covered wet slip. The property was clean and well stocked. The driveway is a challenge (steep). We were able to leave the boat trailer at one of the local marinas so that was a non-issue. This is a great spot and very relaxing.

Daughter graduated from Liberty with her Master's Degree. The house met our needs however the outside deck lights did not work nor the walkway stair lights work. Had to use light of cell phone to walk up and down the stairs. Extremely dangerous.

Great Couple Get Away
Great get away for a couple. The views are amazing and there is really no need to leave except to go to the grocery store. Grill is nice and clean, the hot plate works really well (nice pots and pans too), there is a toaster oven and wifi, if you want it. If you enjoy a good book the deck is a great place to read.

Not Winter Worthy
Mostly clean (dish drain could use washing and we left the dirty sponge where it was and opted to use the dishrag under the sink and paper towels). Furniture was dated, but mostly clean and actually pretty comfortable. (The Detroit football chair was stained, but comfortable-i put a towel down). Bed was very comfy ( we brought our own linens, pillows and comforter). Heat was very good, but noisy with a "clacking" whenever it came on, but very sufficient even in 14 degree weather. Coffee maker, toaster oven and griddle all used and worked very well. Kitchen decently stocked. We arrived to very steep 21 step staircase covered in snow (driveway was clear), bridge to deck with front door also both covered in snow. No snow shovel or salt in the cabin. Staircase lights not working. Rental agent came over and quickly shoveled the snow from the steps, but left the bridge and deck. We borrowed a shovel from my daughter and my husband cleared the bridge and deck the next day- and good thing, as the temp went to 14 and everything would have frozen over. (We'll send a bill). Handyman came the next day to fix the step lights and must have disconnected the extension cord for the water pipe heater, because next morning we had no water (no toilet, no hot water). That was fixed by Saturday evening. Probably a 4 star rental in the Spring or Fall, but not winter equipped. The floor is very slippery when wet, and no mat as you step through the door. (We put down another towel). Also, bathroom floor is freezing without any bath mat or small rug. Stepping out of the shower (which gets 4 stars for temp and pressure), is brutal (again, had to use one of my towels). View over the deck from inside is beautiful, and deck is obviously great to sit out on for sunsets during gentler temps. Although issues were fixed, we dropped quite a chuck of change to stay there and would have possibly had to move out if we weren't so close to my daughter's and a functioning toilet.

Beautiful!
We loved our stay! It was chilly outside but we still spent a large part of the day out on the deck over the water and had an absolutely wonderful time. The house was clean and more spacious than I was expecting. As advertised, the kitchen was modest but sufficient. Some wine glasses would have been nice. ;-) We will definitely be back to wonderful little gem on the water!

The cabin was clean and cozy, our stay was great! I wish they included pictures of the driveway and parking though, the experience of parking our first night was terrible. We didn't expect the driveway to be that steep and since it was covered with leaves, we missed the initial parking area near the top of the driveway. Our SUV had no traction when turning around to drive back up the driveway, the traction control light on our dash popped up because leaves were all around our tires. We managed to clear the leaves from our tires and the driveway with the rake but it was pretty intense.

My stay was very nice and relaxing, it is a quiet getaway. Everything was clean and as advertised. The only thing I didn't like was the number of steps to and from the cabin, but that can't be avoided for the location and the view. In the end all of those steps are worth it. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a getaway for an individual, couple or small family.

A/C electric service woefully inadequate
We were told to in our instructions that if electric failed for A/C to reset the circuit breaker. It went off several times the first day and a half but on the morning of the 3rd day we couldn’t get it to reset. We tried one more time before calling in a problem and it started. About 2 minutes later I heard what sounded like a sizzle and smelled fire next to the circuit box. I immediately called the emergency number and was told they would send someone out. This was a Saturday so the technician didn’t get there until 4 pm so we were without air conditioning the whole day. We were out at the time he came but my husband drove back over about an hour and a half later to check with him. He said the circuit breakers were so old they couldn’t be replaced and the box had way too many connections. He was surprised it had lasted this long and told the person that called him that he would rig something up for us to get through the night but the whole box and wiring needed to be replaced. I would truly not recommend staying there until this problem has been corrected. It’s obviously not up to code and could be dangerous.

Misrepresented NO BEDROOM. One room & a shower only. Totality sways non-stop with the boat traffic. Somewhat like a tree house. **Insufficient well or subtle plumbing problems cause us be without running water our last evening. Running water is an Essential Service. Emergency number provided no help. The contact person suggested turning off toilet valve, as if that would reset the system. The contact person offered potential maintenance help the morning of our check out. 10am check out. **Bathroom - Cracked tiles. Moldy shower curtain. Bathroom exit to grill porch. Odd setup. **Kitchen/Bar Area - Cracked tiles. Every dish & electric skillet we went to use were dirty. Cracked floor tiles. Ruined our food. Melted ice cream in freezer and froze produce & fresh meats in refrigerator. 2 coffee mugs. **Room – No privacy because there is no bedroom. Sofa/bed didn't work for 2/7 days_ rental company sent maintenance to replace unit. Recliners are worn out & arm chair has an uncomfortable sprung spring. plank flooring has gaps and a rotten spot near slider. Mini blinds bent and scrambled. Dusty fan and lights. Odd stains on same wall as air conditioner. Only 3 bed size pillows. Only 1 mattress protector. Locked storage room. AC ran nonstop but cooled well. Rental smelled nice, not musty nor moldy like some places near the water. TV had terrible reception. **Outside - Pickets falling off deck rails. Rotting steps from parking to house. Spacious deck. Plenty of seating outside. Show stopping sunset views. Fishing and dockside lake access do not disappoint. Contact with owner and/or rental agent about lack of running water an essental service was fustrating, unproductive and a waste of my vacation time. BEWARE.

We're sorry you didn't enjoy your stay. Renters were upset we would not refund their stay and were extremely rude, start to end, unfortunately: Renter reported sofa bed wouldn't close Sun. 7/19 on VM which states IMPORTANT: our office is open M-F, 9-5 ONLY; IMPORTANT: our office is open M-F, 9-5 ONLY; we're closed over the weekends &holidays which means we do not check VM or email nights, weekends & holidays. If you have an immediate need after office hours you will need to use the after hours emergency number 540-874-5849 if you would like your issue addressed before Tuesday morning. We replaced that bed with a brand new sofa bed on Tuesday at 3pm. The studio layout is clearly shown in all the photos online. Renters called Sat. night, 7/24 at 9:07pm stating no water. (6 days after arrival) I asked questions to identify the source of problem & asked them to shut off water at base of the toilet for 30 min. (in my 25 years of managing properties at SML, that's a typical reason for wells running out of water (provided that the well breaker is not tripped and the "on " valve is in the proper location on the water line) & self resolves within 30 min. of stopping the toilet leak. I followed up by text to see if the water situation self resolved and only received the response "that's a 25 year old issue for you to address" so I asked the cleaner if water was on. She said there was plenty of water. Toilet flapper was replaced to prevent future issues. Per the signed rental contract signed: MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS: Our homes are well maintained, but please understand that just like your own home, unexpected breakdowns and malfunctions do occur. We do not issue refunds for any maintenance problems or cleaning issues; however, we make every effort to remedy these situations and correct any problems in a timely manner. We have maintenance personnel available, so please report any inoperative equipment or problems to our office immediately. For non-emergency situations, please call during office hours, or leave a detailed message. For emergency maintenance, please call the after-hours number 540-874-5849. Our professional staff will help remedy these situations in a timely manner; however, refunds will not be issued due to malfunctioning equipment mechanical failures, unfavorable weather, early departure, interruption of utilities, construction in the area or other guest dissatisfaction. We will make every effort possible not to disrupt your stay.

Totally Misleading description, neglected property, unprofessional property manager.
Renter beware! This is NOT a one bedroom, this is a run-down studio. Best thing about the property is the dock and location, and the property does have a nice deck. It is clear the property has been neglected and has not been updated (or hardly cleaned) in decades. The accommodations are terrible. It is basically one room with a broken down couch (advertised as a pull out, it was completely broken and useless as such); and one pull down bed in the same room. CB rentals (the property management company), advertises this as a "one bedroom, sleeps up to 4" - no way unless you want to sleep two guests on an ancient musty couch in the same room as the others. The advertisement talks about a grill, which was out of propane when we arrived. When we contacted the property management company, they stated we had to go get propane ourselves and that it was "in our contract"., not in any noticeable place for sure. We had to go get it and carry the heavy container down two flights of stairs to the property, good thing my husband is strong and could carry it. The pull down bed was completely broken and useless and our son had to sleep on a broken bed for 4 days, I would have been mortified if we had brought adult guests. When we complained to CB rentals, they very unprofessionally tried to blame us for not contacting the emergency hotline about the broken bed. It was a Saturday afternoon when we checked in, what was the emergency that could be fixed right then? Could they bring a new bed and set it up right then? I doubt they could have remedied a 50 year old broken down "pull out bed" right then and there. My husband bruised his hand trying to right the broken plyboards that were supposed to hold the mattress up. The property is not maintained at all, and a mess, bugs in the corners, cobwebs, furniture older than a thrift shop. We have never left this type of review before but the property and especially the property manager, deserve it. If I had more room, I could say more, it was shocking how unprofessional CB rentals was when we complained, totally unprofessional, full of excuses and trying to thwart any responsibility. What ever happened to respectful service? You will NOT find it with CB rentals. I think VBRO should discontinue using this property management company.

AWESOME VIEWS!!!!
The stay was AMAZING! The views, the clarity of the water (we stayed in a cove before that was, mucky...) We were 5 minutes from bridgewarter plaza and was the first year we boated to go shopping and eating!!! We were 20 minutes from actual Smith Mountain. For lack of a better word, it was GLORIOUS!!! We spent a few hours on puppy island, which was awesome and sandy. Back to the house. Since all the above outweighed the not so great, it was still worth the trip. 1. Never found a ice maker, it's not at the docks nor in the closet There's a basic one built into the fridge. My SO caught a 3ft catfish and we had to buy ice to bring it home. 2. There is no hot plate, but there was a griddle. The plug to the griddle got really hot to the touch. 3. Mattresses were hard. 4. No bath mat or exhaust fan in the bathroom. It was also dark. It's ok if you shower in the daylight. Again, would book again. We had a great kid free week!!!! Thank you.

Great location, on a cove with a few houses. We've only stayed during the week, which I am sure is a quieter time. We prefer the summer to the fall because of the more hours of sunlight and the opportunity to eat all of our meals on the deck (since the house is small). There is a steep driveway with many steps to the house, which might be a problem for some.

The view! We had a great time fishing day and night, eating on the porch, and just relaxing listening to the wonderful sound of nature. I highly recommend this cabin for couples or a couple with a small child. The cabin itself is very clean. The only thing I wish I would of known is that it does have blankets, pillows, kitchen utensils and toilet paper. I read a lot here that we had to bring all of that so I brought everything. The only thing I couldn’t find was the one eye I thought I had read somewhere. But it comes with a toaster oven and grill. The only thing needed from home is wash cloths and towels. The bed spread could be updated but other than that it was great.

Our second time at this location. Will probably book again in 2021. Enjoyed the boat dock. A total of 21 steps to get down to the site so I would not recommend if you don’t like steps. Also the driveway is very narrow. Great cove for fishing and swimming. Restaurants and grocery within three miles. Also close to the dump. Murphy bed has a great mattress and sleeps well.

Overall, the stay was fine for the price point. Great area, close to the marina, safe, overall in a great location. The kitchen could use some organizing, more coffee cups, and a potato peeler! Having a small stove would be convenient.

We really enjoyed our stay! Such a cozy cabin with everything you need! Loved that we could just step right outside and cast a line or go swimming. Great spot for fishing! Excellent communication with owners! Very nice and accommodating! We look forward to staying again!!

Amazing and cozy
Had a very relaxing time and I actually got to meet the owners who are wonderful. I will be visiting them soon I hope, and will be fishing and riding Harley's in the future with them. All around quite a unique vacation, not everyday you get to meet the owners!

House Over Lake
This was a really nice house over the lake. We really enjoyed fishing from the deck! It was so nice not to have to be in a boat to go fishing! The only thing I wish was different is I would love to have a way to walk into the water instead of going directly into deep water. Also I missed not having a stove.

Little Oasis by the Lake
Overall the place was great. Being on the water was lovely. The space is quaint, with amazing sunset views. One downside was it wasn't very clean, we had to clean the toilet, floors, and crumbs off the counter. There were a couple of kitchen discrepancies, we didn't find a keurig or a hot plate, but we did find two electric skillets which we used. Also the grill was brand new. Nice lounge furniture for the huge deck. And really good cell phone signal. We would definitely stay here again.
