The staff was rude and unreasonable

I arrived there late because of the flight delay, the staff told a lie said she send me an email to confirm my booking and my dinner preparation, I checked from the mail box I found nothing! On my way to the hotel I switched on the mobile but received no call from her. It was a chilling cold winter night, we even not receiving a cup of hot tea for warming on arrival, she just keep blamed us not inform her about the late arrival, she asked us to eating outside, indeed we just arrived the town even with no understanding about the directionFinally she was too kind to offer us half portion of the dinner! I understand what is hotel policy, but if she can be more humanitarianism, I think we will thank her from our heart, but now she already ruin the impression of my trip!

A cozy onsen ryokan with very attentive and helpful male staff. I was truly impressed by his excellent service and will definitely return for another stay. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. Although the onsen is not very large, it offers both indoor and outdoor baths and was pleasantly quiet with few people around.

Loved our experience. Only issue was the bed was not enough mattress for us but maybe others would not take issue. Other than that everything was a 10/10. Food was unique and delicious, service excellent, clean and of course the Onsen’s we so fun. Beautiful little town.

Nicer Ryokan for the area. Obvious reason to stay is to visit the Shibu Onsen facilities and the Snow Monkey Park and this is a great option for those activities. Pretty close to the Shiga Kogen resort. Check the Map before booking as it is not in Nagano despite the address. Diner and breakfast with Half board was very good and staff were friendly and helpful. Free shuttles were a bonus.

渋温泉の素晴らしい旅館　

炭の湯さんの宿泊はとても快適で心地よい滞在でした。旅館のみなさんのサービスがとてもよく、とても有り難く思いました。また他の旅館に比べると料金が半分ほどで、素晴らしいお食事内容なのでビックリしました。夕食、朝食ともにとても素晴らしい内容でした。　上品なお料理で地元の特産をいかした美味しいお料理でした。炭の湯旅館のみなさん、どうもありがとうございました。

Ryokan Suminoyu was absolutely wonderful. We had a traditional Japanese room with two twin futons. The bathroom and shower were modern and lovely. The staff spoke English and were very gracious about our attempts to speak Japanese. The location is perfect; tucked on a quaint street in the heart of Shibu Onsen. We were picked up from the Yudanaka Station by the staff who monitored our train arrival time and were there to retrieve us when we arrived. There were also two very convenient morning shuttles to the Snow Monkey park. The walk back was down hill and only took 25 minutes. There were cabs there if you needed one. We were absolutely delighted with our Kaiseki style dinners and breakfasts. They were prepared and served beautifully and the wait staff were very gracious in explaining the various dishes and in what order to eat them. I cannot praise Ryokan Suminoyu enough. Thank you to the staff for making our first Ryokan and Onsen experience one we will never forget.

A welcome slowdown in pace at a top notch Ryokan

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay. From the pickup at the station to the drop off at the Snow Monkey Park, to the “key” to the local Onsen circuit…this was a welcome reprieve from the crazy pace of Tokyo and Kyoto. Everyone was so friendly and helpful, dinner and breakfast meals were all amazing and the rooms and facilities were clean and comfortable. I would go back in a heartbeat. And to top it all off, I accidentally left my shampoo and conditioner and before I’d realized it, they drove it over to me and gave it to me in the train before it departed, going way above expectations!

For an authentic Japanese experience this is the place to go. Staff wonderfully helpful, picked us up from the Monkey Park when we arrived, also put on an early breakfast for us as well as early transport to the railway station.

The whole stay was a great experience. The staff were amazingly helpful. We needed to be picked up from the station and they came. I needed a PowerPoint adapter abd tgey were able to loan me one. We needed to get back to the station earlier than their set time abd tgey accommodated us. Well done guys, it was great.
