Decent family stay on a trip

Rooms are good for the price, lil hole in the wall hotel only one for a lil bit in the area. Caretaking family is SUPER NICE, and my only gripe is the waffle maker had crusty all over it, like it has never been touched by a paper towel.

Minimal Expectations for Price & Location

I wasn’t expecting much for our one night stay because of the low price. Bed was fine, room was clean, refrigerator worked well. The TV many more channels then I needed, but the volume control on the remote would NOT work and I would have preferred it lower. Then when I was ready for bed, the power off on the remote control would NOT function. I tried multiple different ways to turn off the TV to no avail. I could not find any manual buttons, switches, knobs, etc on the TV itself as I searched all over the TV with my flashlight. I finally gave up and pulled the power plug out. The tap water looked clear but it has a very high mineral content and we could not use it to bush our teeth; using the bottled water we had. My shower in the morning had plenty of hot water and good flow. The bottom of the shower curtain was stained from the hard water and it had additional black stains from what?, but really needs replacing. Wallpaper in the bathroom was loose in a couple of places. The bathroom mirror was missing some of the reflecting layer around the edges. The toilet worked as it should but it was very low. When my knees are above my hips, it makes it much harder to get up (a problem for many older people). The breakfast was just OK, except for the waffle batter was very thin resulting in the waffle sticking in the iron. My wife had a hard time getting it out of the waffle iron.

This was the worse experience I have ever had at a hotel. We came to check in at 2 pm no one was there for half an hour. When someone finally comes they check me in and give me my key. I was running late for a wedding so I didn't go up to the room. At 2 AM when I returned to the hotel I was unable to get into my room. I went downstairs and was told I never checked in and they gave away my room. So I was stranded at 2 AM in the middle of nowhere. It was a horrible experience.

Communication was a problem. When checking in the clerk gave us a key to a room and we opened the door and it was already occupied. Next, he gave us a key for a room on the second floor with 2 queen beds and no working fridge (also, the beds were made up with the sheet on the outside of the bed on top of the blanket, with no spread on top stranger.) The third key he gave us was to a room with a king bed and working fridge which is what was ordered, so we took it. It is a good thing that we were able to check in first before going to the event that brought us to the area, as I would have hated to encounter this situation late in the evening and walk in on people in their rooms. The motel had a non working ice machine, the breakfast was not worth mentioning (the coffee was good). No staff was present on arrival and during breakfast hours. There is no sound proofing, noises can be heard; talking, walking, etc.

Was pet friendly but charged more per pet than advertised, cash only. Linens might have been clean but were so stained and dingy, it was had to tell - replace or use some bleach every so often. Continental breakfast advertised was cereal/milk, coffee, oj and one pack of blueberry muffins - do a pack and go breakfast if you don’t want to serve food. Or don’t advertise you serve a continental breakfast.

It was clear that something was off when the soap and shampoo dispensers in the3 bathroom were empty and the towels had been washed and re-used well past their useful life. The property is in a blighted area with a number of abandoned businesses, and from the outside this ABVI also looked abandoned. The worst was the breakfast. They told us it was from 6 to 9. When we got there at 6 no one was there. There was a thermos of coffee from the night before or maybe the night before that. There was cereal but no milk or bowls. A toaster, but no bread of any kind. We did not see any other guests and we may be the last before the owners close the doors for good. Expedia should not book rooms here for its customers
