Cruise along Palinuro’s coastline by boat and admire majestic caves running deep into the cliffs. Explore under the water with a scuba tour or simply dip your feet in the warm water of the town’s beaches.
Palinuro’s central streets are filled with whitewashed villas and low-rise hotels interspersed with parks of olive trees with leaves rustling in the breeze. Head to a small café or enjoy a 15-minute stroll to the harbour at the south end of the village.
Along the waterfront, find restaurants with delicious seafood. Then move to the beach itself. The town has abundant tranquil, rocky coves perfect for swimming while the soft, white sand and loungers near the harbour make it the perfect place to sunbathe or paddle in the shallows.
Some of the local highlights are the sea caves, accessible by boat. Book a tour at one of the kiosks at the harbour. Your captain will take you to several of these spectacular natural landmarks. Grotta Azzurra is one of the best. Sunlight filters through a 26-foot (8-metre) passageway, turning the water inside a vivid shade of blue.
For a more active experience in the caves, go on an expedition with the Palinuro Sub Diving Centre. Navigate through the vast blue grotto and investigate the Blood Grotto where strange bacteria colour the walls dark red.
Return from your adventure to choose one of the fantastic restaurants accessible within a short walk. Enjoy the final rays of sun at the harbour or sit among the peaceful streets and treat yourself to delicious fresh pasta.
