I took a chance booking this place since a previous review stated that the owner was away on holiday. I was hoping he would have returned by the time I booked, and unfortunately, he was still away when I arrived. Just like the previous commenter, this place was not worth the high marks given.
While they had my booking, they assigned me to the wrong room ( I had to switch rooms the second night). Once I was lead to my upstairs room, I noticed several dead bees and wasps that no one bothered to clean up on the stairway. I found a live one in my room and thankfully, I managed to get it out. With so many bees and wasps, there must be some kind of nest on the property that should be taken care of immediately. This could be a hazard for future guests.
The room itself was run down and dirty looking. Lots of cobwebs were in my room and no working hot water in the bathroom ( the first room I had).
The breakfast that many raved about did not appear during my stay. We were given some meat, old baguette ( I saw it on the counter the day before), wilted lettuce and tomatoes. Each person also received one crepe which they could add mixed fruit jam or a cheap chocolate sauce. Undercooked eggs in the form of an omelette were offered after the second night.
The guesthouse did provide a free evening transfer to the central area of the city which was one positive. They also offered tickets to other areas of Laos, but these tickets are higher than the bus station.
