The Neighborhood:
Red Lodge, nestled in the foothills of the Beartooth Mountains, is a wonderful place to visit if you are looking for family fun, a place to touch the wild, or just a chance to let your hair down. Whether you are wearing Birkenstocks or cowboy boots, you will find something to do here. (Although downtown is paved and we even have sidewalks, Jimmy Choos are probably not a great idea!)
In winter the road ends here. Downhill skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, sledding and sleigh riding are just the short list of activities that you can do when visiting us.
In summer we revel in the Beartooth Pass opening. We are only 68 miles from Yellowstone Park, but plan on a good two hours` drive as the “Pass” is stunning in high mountain vistas, rocky cliffs, and jeweled lakes. The Custer National Forest is a haven for wildlife including elk, moose, mountain goats, big horn sheep, bears (black and grizzly), mountain lions and wolves. Golden marmots are often seen dashing across the trails. Golden and bald eagles often visit our area, as well as sandhill cranes and blue herons.

Red Lodge, Montana is a rural community that does offer internet and cell service throughout most geographic areas but, some locations are completely void of any internet or cell service. In town and within a 3-5 mile radius of downtown you will enjoy solid cell signal but during times when our population increases due to events, celebration (such as the Fourth of July), or emergency situations such as a wildfire you will notice that these online and cellular services slow down and sometimes, they can slow down to the point where you have to wait to place a call. We can’t do anything to help in these situations, so we encourage people to enjoy the freedom of being “unplugged” and to be patient.

Very nice home to stay in. Easy access to the ski hill road. Easy access to the downtown. Enjoyed seeing the turkeys and whitetail deer out the kitchen window.
We stayed for a week of family vacation with our teenage son and niece and nephew. The house is lovely and we particularly enjoyed the wildlife in the garden (e.g. deer and turkeys), Red Lodge, and the beautiful area around Red Lodge.
Always a pleasure to stay in a home that has a cook. Every pot, pan and utensil that was required was there. We even made bread. Loved the layout of the house. Fun watching the turkeys descend from the trees in the morning and the deer walking through. We even saw a moose while we were there. The bed was very comfortable and we loved the showers. A fun drive over Beartooth Pass to Yellowstone.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this colorfully appointed chalet. Well-equipped kitchen and many windows made it fun to cook AND watch wildlife (including turkeys) also enjoying the property. Appreciated many books and games, and having a separate bedroom and bath in the loft area. Only suggestion would be V-shape #4 filters for coffee pot. A lovely home base for Tippet Rise visit.
We had a wonderful stay here. We came for a long weekend ski trip and it suited us perfectly. Our 2 yr old boy loved the toy room. The only thing that would be better is a tub for giving our kid a bath. The cabin was clean, updated, cozy, and had some morning and evening entertainment with many wild turkey and deer. One night the floor heat stopping running for a period of time and it got down to 62 in the cabin but then turned back on after a while and worked fine for the rest of the stay. That would not deter us from staying here again.
We enjoyed the house. As a family of four we had plenty of space. House would also work great for 3 couples. Had a small hiccup with the oven but the management company fixed it promptly. AAA is great to work with. Thanks for having us!
This spot was perfect for our family of five. Check in was a little old school with a lock box attached to a door- but it was easy to get in. The home was well stocked with anything you could possibly need. We loved the goodies provided, especially the local soap and tea! We spent the afternoon watching the wildlife in the backyard- turkeys in the trees, and deer meandering by. The house was super comfortable, and the natural light was amazing. The toys provided kept our children more than entertained. The library of books was amazing! Our only concern is that there was no handrail on the stairs, and my husband hurt his knee because of it. The hosts sent great communication via text, but we didn’t hear back from them when we requested a late check out (which is totally fine). All in all, the Chickadee chalet was perfect for our family and we would love to stay here again.
Everything was perfect and as represented in the photos. The property was immaculately clean and had everything we needed. The outdoor grill was in good condition and there was plenty of propane.
The special treat was the spacious yard with lounge chairs and a big picnic table. It was grassy with a nice mixture of shade and sun. It’s peaceful with no traffic. We whiled away our late afternoons there. That’s when the flock of turkeys wanders through the yard. Exactly at sunset they start running toward the trees and lift off into the air to land in the lower limbs of the trees . They roost there for the night. Five minutes after sunrise they’re gone. It was so much fun to watch. Deer also stroll by. Quite the shoe.
Nice, cozy property which accommodates kiddos and infants. Last house on street so quiet from road/people noise. Lots of nature; a parade of turkeys & deer every morning.
Management company responded immediately to requests. Email & texts are a bit excessive as you approach your stay date but better too much than too little. A couple of recommendations will be made out of band to the mgmt company. NOTE: Although this house accommodates kids/babies, there is no bathtub; only 2 showers with no hand-held shower capability for toddlers/kids. Not sure if this is mentioned in the listing or not.
We had a great time, enjoying all the wildlife, as well as the toys in the loft.
We had a great time, enjoying all the wildlife, as well as the toys in the loft. Outside and the loft were our favorite places to hang out! We needed to change our reservation by one day and they were able to do it, even on a holiday weekend. Communications were swift and accommodating.
We met our daughter and family, including two children under four. They absolutely loved the loft with toys! The rental was well stocked with anything you would need to have a comfortable stay. We were well entertained with the turkeys and deer in residence!
I would definitely rent this place again if we are in the area again!
