Check-in was friendly enough, but overall communication from staff was poor. We weren’t told anything about local transport, bus stops, attractions, or tourist maps (which we only discovered on our last day). Dining advice was limited to the hotel restaurant, and when we asked for a menu, none was available immediately. We were told about reduced hours on Boxing Day, but that was about it.
The room was a major disappointment and not as advertised on the website. We were given a very small “cupboard” room, which we didn’t know existed. The double bed was pushed against the wall, making it impractical for two people. The bathroom was awful: the hot water smells strongly of sulphur (not mentioned on the website), the shower is tiny and floods the whole room, and the sink is barely usable. Walls are extremely thin — you can hear everything next door.
Breakfast was poor with very limited choice and no cooked options beyond porridge or a waffle. Room cleaning only happens if requested, and even then they only provide towels, not proper cleaning.
We stayed for New Year’s Eve but weren’t told the restaurant would close early, that buses stop running early, or that celebrations are mainly in Reykjavik. We felt let down, as NYE is meant to be a big event in Iceland.
I’d happily return to Iceland, but I would not stay at this hotel again.
