When we travel we consider the motel or hotel room to be a base camp, a place to drop our stuff, sleep, shower, and leave for the majority of the time. Rarely do we use or care for amenities. Here, however, we received the greatest amenity: a knowledgeable and helpful staff that helped us plan our days. We were there for the Trinity Site, but we also visited Roswell, White Sands National Park, and the Carrizozo lava flows. The motel operator lent us their sleds for the white sand dunes and convinced us to go and see the sunset, which was a great choice.

This room was a lot better than we expected. The motel is old, but the inside of the rooms have been completely updated. Very quiet. Huge TV. Amazon Prime was active in our room. Don’t know if that is a perk or a mistake. A really restful overnight stop in a long stretch of highway with no other options. Don’t let the outside appearance discourage you.

The room was immaculate, the beds were comfy, check-in was cheerful and quick, and all this for $60. Certainly beyond my expectations! One caution: no restaurants were open in town that evening. Made do with the 24/7 convenience mart next door.

Friendly Staff

The motel staff are great! Only issues were with the towels. They were very dirty. Glad I had my own. The restroom is very small. I barely had room to get out of the shower.

Carrizozo is a very small town of less than a thousand people. Not much to do there. Four Winds is a decent place. Quiet, for sure. Room was spacious enough. Bed comfortable.

Room wasn’t cleaned properly. There was dog food on the floor, mold in the corners, paint chipping on the celling in the bathroom, the hanger on the back of the bathroom door was removed. The ice machine was inoperable. The a/c worked well and the beds were comfortable.
