Family time

The property had all the amenities we needed. We enjoyed the beach, pool and hot tub. Also there was plenty of room for the family and the dogs! We are considering coming back in the future.

Best Location Ever

We had a wonderful vacation here at Barefoot Adventures, this is our second time staying here and I would stay again for sure. I would recommend this house it has everything you need for a great vacation. The location is awesome, it is quite and close to the beach with a short walk over the dunes. The views from the top deck are spectacular. We observed many deer roaming among the dunes from the deck. The house was very clean upon arrival and everything was in order. We had to ask the owner about how to operate one of the heat pumps and she was very quick to respond and instructed us on how to use it. It was definitely operator error on our part but she was great. The pool and the hot tub were great and we all had just a wonderful time. Thank you for providing such a wonderful place for folks to stay. Highly recommended to anyone with a large group or kids to stay here it is close to everything you need.

Nice size house. Needs TLC.

This house had plenty of space for our group and was located just where we wanted to be. With that being said, it is in need of some repairs and general maintenance to the home. On the exterior of the home, there was some visible damage to the wood siding in one spot and most of the exterior was in need of repainting due to chipped or faded paint. The "barefoot adventures" sign looked very worn and uninviting on the front of the house. Most vents were dirty and appeared to have mold on them. All return vent filters were in desperate need of replacing. One was dated 12/20. We replaced this one with a new one from the box in the basement. There was what appeared to be water damage in several parts of the home. Drywall tape was coming free in several rooms which is typically caused by moisture issues. Pubic hair was visible on the 3rd floor toilet upon arrival. Jacuzzi/garden tub had no means to plug the drain so the tub could not be filled. Only one tub in the home had any way to plug the drain to fill in order to give a child a bath. The pool was green and was low on water upon arrival. Same day of arrival, a pool service tech was on grounds to fill the pool. This same tech arrived on the 2nd or 3rd day and added chemicals to the pool. We hoped it would clear up the green algae but it was still present upon departure. Nobody from our party used the pool during our stay due to this. Under cabinet lighting were all missing light bulbs. The thermostat on the 2nd floor was locked to not go below 70 which made for 1 or 2 stuffy nights. House was decorated beautifully and these issues did not ruin our vacation it's just a little disappointing to see. DISCLAIMER: none of these issues were brought to the attention of the property manager during our stay. I'm sure some of these issues could have been remedied during our stay as the owner seems very responsive but it's not something we wanted to deal with during our stay. One member of our party suffers from dementia and having strangers in the residence during our stay would have caused undue stress to this family member. Not looking for a refund or a hand out and have not requested one in any way. Just trying to leave an honest review. With a little TLC this home would be amazing. I read some previous reviews stating some of these same issues and most seem to be dismissed by the property owner/manager so photos were taken of all problem issues at the property.

End of Lifecycle

I rented a property about 10 years ago 1 mile further south, one row back from beach front, with a pool and more bedrooms for the same price I paid for this rental. In comparison, that property was luxurious. For the cost of this rental, I expected kitchen appliances that worked properly and a password protected WIFI, at the very least. This property is at the very end of its lifecycle and needs a $150k overhaul to bring it up to basic quality standards most people would expect for the cost. I am grateful we were able to find a property where we could bring our dogs 6 months prior to our stay but I would not stay at this property again at the same cost. The vacuum does not even work correctly. If you are staying, plan on carry out for all meals. I could not even fry up hash browns on the stove or boil water for spaghetti without a lid on the pot. Also bring ice. The ice maker only produces 12 cubes every 12 hours. I could go on but I think this review begins to paint an accurate picture. My parents are getting on in years and this was most likely our last big family vacation together so it was a bit disappointing the house was not well maintained.

Big house with a BEAUTIFUL beach access

This home easily fit ourselves, friends and our kids. There is a big well-stocked kitchen, plenty of full bathrooms and we always appreciate the pool and direct beach access! The Hattaras shoreline is truly stunning... just miles of sand and dune without a house in site. The town is cozy and has lots of local charm. One major perk of the house is the amazing AC -- it kept us cool even on the hottest days! The house is otherwise quite well-loved and could use some tune ups -- the deck needs sanding, the pool needs a new ladder, the grounds need pruning and the outdoor shower needs a good scrub. But we truly appreciated the wonderful location and that beautiful beach.

Loved this Property!

My family and two other families stayed in this house. 6 adults and 9 kids and we all fit comfortably. We loved the pool and the hot tub and the kids loved playing billiards in the basement. Great upper level with tons of space for relaxing and playing games. We love how quiet the beach is here in Salvo. The walk to the beach was short but a little difficult for some in our party with the deep hot sand on the path. Sonal was extremely attentive to our stay and responded very well to our positive and negative feedback, promising to attend to some of the issues we mentioned, such as the outdoor shower area and the nails sticking out on the deck. Overall, it was an amazing vacation and we would definitely stay here again. Thanks!!!

Good not great

The neighborhood and location were absolutely ideal! The house had plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms and was very spacious. Unfortunately, two of the bed quilts were visibly dirty upon arrival….and, once we reviewed the checkout procedures, it was clear that these items are not washed between each guest. We laundered them ourselves. We wiped all knobs and surfaces upon arrival and noticed that they too, were visibly dirty. On the plus side, the property manager was responsive throughout our stay. The house was well appointed with everything you could possibly need (kitchen supplies, beach chairs, etc). Unfortunately, we were expecting the house to be a bit nicer—paint peeling, molding falling off, AC wasn’t very strong and made for some uncomfortable nights.

Great Family Get-away

Property was very clean and well maintained. It is very roomy, and even with 11 adults never seemed crowded. We cooked nearly all meals during our week stay and were pleasantly surprised with how well equipped the kitchen was. Pool and hot tub were clean and appropriately chlorinated. The property manager was very responsive and quick to reply to questions.

Perfect for large groups

House was nice, plenty of space and beautiful views. A couple of issues upon arrival (general maintenance) but the owner was incredibly communicative and all issues were handled by day 2. I will say, going up and down 3 flights of stairs regularly is exhausting lol. Also, the hike to the beach is all sand and uphill, over a couple of dunes; and there are cacti and sand spurs, so be warned! Otherwise, we were able to see the moon rise out of the ocean each night, there was plenty of space for 14 of us, pool and hot tub were great, pool table was great for kids, it was not a crowded area with plenty of nearby conveniences, and we burned off our vacation indulgences utilizing 3 flights of stairs and beach walks!

Great value for the price

Although the property has some cosmetic issues, it was a Beautiful place to relax. In spite of an entire vacation of rain, we had fun playing pool, doing puzzles and playing board games.

Great location on a quiet stretch of beach

Overall, we were very happy with the property. It was nice and quiet, with views of the ocean on the upper deck. House had a lot of space to move around, and was clean. Wifi worked perfectly, as well as other entertainment options. Kitchen was supplied with all of the essentials. There were a few cosmetic items that need to be addressed(missing door handle on microwave above stove/ curtain rod hanging down in main living area), but this is a great beach house for peace and quiet, especially during this pandemic.

Great for a relaxing time at the beach

Nice beachfront home with lovely view of the high dunes and ocean on the main level (with great room, kitchen and one of the master bedrooms). Hot tub on the deck off the main level was so convenient. Great for star gazing as well. A good getaway during the pandemic as the house is some distance from the more congested areas of the outer banks. But this also means that you need to bring food supplies, etc., with you. Also the rental does not include some of the basic supplies such as hand soap (surprising during a pandemic), dish soap, bath soap or shampoo. Internet worked well which was a plus as we needed to work during our stay.

Girls Trip

Overall, we loved the place as each of the 4 travelers got her own room and bathroom. We also loved the proximity to the beach and the lovely views from the upper deck as well as the hot tub. The location is great and it's very quiet this time of year. We think with a few upgrades/fixes this place could be amazing. The bathtub on the top floor was missing the temperature control handle. There was no way to control the temperature without it, so one of us had to use the shower on a different floor. This seems an easy and necessary fix. Also, the ceilings are quite high and some of the light fixtures had burned out bulbs or no bulbs at all. Guests are unable to reach these fixtures and the lighting definitely impacts the mood. Some of the fixtures were a mish mash of different bulb strengths. All of the bulbs should be the same and in working condition. We made it work, but it was awkward. Another lighting issue is the sensor lights on the upper deck. There is not an easy way to manually turn the sensor off. We were you're outside enjoying the stars and meteor shower that was going on during our stay and had to figure out a way to stop the lights from coming on and off and interrupting the show. More paper products should also be provided, but Dollar General was close by for those types of needs. Be sure to bring dish soap, sponges, and hand soaps for the kitchen and bathrooms too. Overall, we loved place and will visit OBX again. The fixes at this place should be easy and inexpensive, but would make a world of difference to the guests. All of the girls and all of the dogs had a great time. Thank you!

Great Stay

Fantastic location and overall layout of house with the public spaces on 3rd floor so everyone in you party can enjoy the best views. Responsive owners and easy access to beach made this a good getaway.

Great vacation thank you!!!!

Let me just say what a great vacation we had! The owner was amazing if I can concerns or questions she replied to me with in less then 30 minutes. The house was larger and had a great view. Few issues we ran into- the ladder in the pool was missing rungs, pool light in the water was out, the common shower on the second floor had a slight issue but still was use able. Nothing that I saw would stop me from returning! I can’t get over how amazing the owner was to work with! I also couldn’t beat the location I liked that it was not in the middle of the main tourist stuff. A note to the owner I would speak with a few of the neighbors about maybe building a boardwalk out from the houses and over the dunes that was my big struggle with a 2 yr old! We will be back for sure thank you so much!!! Over due relaxing vacation

Nice property for price

A bit out of the way from the main stretch which wasn't a bad thing during COVID times. We enjoyed the stay for the price. Very affordable for what we were looking for. Needs a little upkeep- for example, there were no stairs on ladder for the deep end of the pool. I also wish I had known that the pool was solar heated. I knew it was heated in general, and perhaps this is my lack of knowledge of pool heaters, but the property manager said that the pool was heated to 81 degrees. The first day we were there was fabulous and I believe it was 81 degrees. The second day was a bit cooler and the third day, no one wanted to swim because it wasn't as warm as it had been. A bit disappointing. But the location is great and quiet. Very little light pollution at night. The beach was not crowded. The surf was rough, but I can't speak to other times of the year. We remedied this but taking our toddlers a mile down the way to a public access beach on the other side of the banks which was extremely calm and serene. Overall great trip. Would consider going again.

Barefoot Adventures

We had great difficulty getting to the house due to nc12 being washed out. The owners were very helpful with assisting in information about road reopening and offering extra days to stay since we lost 3 days. Overall it was a great place to stay.
