Rented for 2 nights was Allowed to Stay only 1
Flew cross country to go skiing at Snowbird and rented Patrick's property for the first 2 nights for our family of four. Patrick was wholly unaware that the road to his property was blocked due to a bus/avalanche accident (the only road blocked in the area) on the evening of our arrival. One of my friends called me to warn me! I called Patrick immediately upon hearing this distressing news from JFK Airport New York, Patrick said he was so sorry to hear this, that we shouldn't worry about finding a place to sleep as there are many hotels in Salt Lake City that we can check into last minute, that he's flexible and "easy to talk to" and that he would refund us 1 night. Upon his advice, upon our arrival we paid around $450 and rented a couple of hotel rooms in Salt Lake City to get some sleep. The following morning, we drove up to go ski Snowbird--the road was open. When we checked into Snowbird that morning they only had a reservation for 1 night for us (the second night)--I have documentation of this. They said we could go skiing but can't get into the room until 4 pm because they told us "the room is still dirty". No matter, we didn't need a room during ski hours. Eventually they did take our luggage up to the room and apparently it wasn't dirty after all. Fast forward to the now, where Patrick has charged us for 2 nights + an extra $70 cleaning fee and has decided that he cannot refund us after all. I find the lack of support and the chaotic communication not in the spirit of community home sharing. Also, it shouldn't cost us twice as much to NOT stay somewhere. Hopefully Patrick and Home Away can resolve the matter of this unfortunate booking for us.
