I've stayed at the Regent in Taipei so trusted it would just as good in Shanghai. Clearly something is missing. Huge shortage of staff in comparision. Not enough at front desk, aside from the environment it is not different than a 2 star motel. All the staff are very friendly and helpful when they have time and get to you.
Had to ask reguarly for more coffee and cream in the room. Budget cuts come to mind when these things add up. Staff cuts, skimping on little things like coffee creamers, only 2 sugar packets per day, coffee pods for the room.
This is supposed to be 5 star? Taipei location had everything, 3 pieces of fruit in my room daily, plenty of coffee, cream, water, lots of friendly helpful staff, people opening the doors for you coming in and going out of main entrance, elevators, etc. Not that this is critical but it's supposed to be 5 star and you pay for that service.
I'm not sure how this building was constructed between floors but it sure seemed to have wood instead of concrete between floors. Kids jumping around above annoying!
I plan on vacationing to Asia several times a year and have been over the past 2 years but I don't have the confidence that Regent will provide me with the consistent quality from city to city, country to country. I will likely try another brand in a few months. Very disappointing. These poor staff, they are friendly and helpful but it's clear they are understaffed at this location and instructed to be frugal on supplies for rooms.
