In its day this was probably an excellent hotel; now it is showing its age and all sorts of minor maintenance matters need attention. The restaurant seemed to have something missing in atmosphere or ambience, and the food was okay, but not exceptional. The sticky toffee pudding - normally a family favourite was very disappointing. None of the food was piping hot when it arrived, and the apparent winner - the breakfast buffet was equally disappointing.

We have stayed in the hotel several times this time there were extra payments that we included before like Parking, use of pool, etc The hotel is nice but we were in a family room and compared to the other rooms in the hotel the standard was poor. The carpet was thread bare and the bunk beds were very old and creaky so much so that our 9 year old was too scared to sleep in them. The restaurant was nice and leisure pool was also good and the location is great.

The location is perfect. The hotel is an old building but has had money spent on it. We paid for half board, which worked out very good value. We got £35 towards our evening meal and a very good breakfast. My gripe with the hotel is everything is extra, parking £10 a day (we pre-booked through the company running it and it was cheaper.) The swimming pool is extra, breakfast not included in some prices too. However the food was excellent and it I would return. Staff excellent but like a lot of hotels now service for our excellent evening meal was slow.

This is not a 4* hotel, walk past the reception and restaurant and it’s tired and in need of a major update. The room has no main light so very dim, due to the age and former use the window was small and offered no light. The window also had mould. The wardrobe door was hanging off its rail and the toilet seat was broken, went to reception and they offered to send housekeeping to take a look as they were fully booked, I checked the website once back in the room and could have booked a choice of rooms online. When we told reception this she said ‘no that’s not true’…The maintenance person did come straight away and said as soon as we fix these doors the screws just come out again! He did fix the toilet seat but dropped the cap down the pan which will probably cause a blockage next week! There was a big crack in the ceiling that had been rudely plastered over and the bathroom was something out of the 70’s with 1 bulb in the mirror light (should have had 2) so again very dim. Breakfast is self service with limited choice of cooked, baked goods and cereal, limited fruit. The drinks are from a machine which caused long que’s and wasn’t very nice. Plus side the evening meal was good but quite a limited pub style menu, would have been nice to see a Scottish menu with local or traditional dishes. The gym and pool area were good the gym equipment was of a good standard and all working but again worn.

It is an old building with dated bathroom facilities. The room was comfortable and quiet. The dining area was nice, The food was excellent. The staff excellent. Withing walking distance of Sterling Castle.

I loved the property. It is a beautiful building and a short walk to the castle. The room was large and very comfortable. I was able to walk everywhere I needed to go. I would definitely go back to the Stirling Highland Hotel.

Freundliches Personal. Tolles Gebäude. Innen mit dem typischen Charme. Sehr gutes Essen im Restaurant. Das Bett war allerdings eine Katastrophe. Ich habe noch nie in einem so weichen Bett gelegen. Ich habe da drin wie in einer schlechten Hängematte gelegen. Dementsprechend schlecht habe ich geschlafen. Das Personal war freundlich, konnte aber nicht helfen. Schade.

The shower was horrible! The drain was clogged and water was up to my ankles showering. The sliding closet doors were broke and couldn't open or close the doors. I would not recommend or stay here again. The staff couldn't properly explain to me the parking location. Fortunately, another customer behind me explained it precisely and easily.

Hotel is well situated and we had good stay and enjoyed pool. Also enjoyed both buffet breakfast/dinner in the restaurant. My companion has mobility issues and hotel is on quite a steep hill.She did manage it! Staff helpful but explation about cost of breakfast not transparent so make sure you are clear how much you are due to pay
