Great Apartment but no elevator
To begin, my rating is based on one major flaw in the VRBO listing. There is no elevator. An elevator was the main reason we had booked this apartment, for the lift. The apartment is on the 2nd floor (European counting) which is the 3rd floor (North American). We are two seniors and while we managed, it was not ideal. (Initially I did not say anything about the elevator since I thought it might have been my mistake. Once we were settled in, it wasn’t worth the time to sort anything else out)If you’re ok with stairs, this is a fantastic apartment. The location is on the island of Ortigia, a great place to stay compared to Siracusa itself. The apartment is on a quiet street behind the main plaza (Fontana di Ortigia). You could not ask for a better location. We were met at the apartment which was nice. The photos in the VRBO listing are accurate. The apartment faces west and is bright. Having the balconies was a bonus. There is walk-in shower which is not shown in the photos. There were no tea towels for drying dishes and no coffee mugs (only espresso cups) – we bought two which we left behind. When we arrived, there was one roll of toilet paper. When I sent a WhatsApp message, I was told the one roll was part of the welcome package and any more was my responsibility. I have never had that happen at a VRBO property before. Communication ahead of time was good and the online check-in was easy to do.As I said above, we loved this apartment. But only book it if you can handle
